What does your 7yr old like in the garden?

As big a paddling pool as you can manage.

My DS loves his basketball hoop, it's freestanding and you can move it on a base with wheels. A netball post would be a winner too and sponge balls if noise gets to you.

hoops and balls and cones - anything that can be moved around

Ez-fort to build dens. Add in a cheap fabric shower curtain for a rain-proof roof.

Bubble guns
Water tables
Hoop game

Swingball

Swing ball. It's fun for adults to play, too, mine played it into their teens.

I have a wooden kitchen in the garden. Twin 7yo spend ages out there making potions from plants.

Pattygonia · 15/06/2022 12:44

Yy to swingball - mine used it right up to relieving gcse tension

Bubbles (Dr Zigs are amazing!) Somewhere to dig. Water/paddling pool/watering can, buckets, containers/guttering/spray bottles....

Mt youngest son loves dinosaurs, we have outdoor plastic dinos he makes worlds for.

Chalks. Hopscotch. Paints.

Long ribbon on a stick.

We have a few things from Decathlon

Pop up tennis net and rackets
Archery set
Pop up basketball hoop/ball
Badminton set (also take on holiday)

We have a smallish garden so love anything pop up!

Yodaisawally · 15/06/2022 12:53

Paddling pool
Swingball - I still love swingball!

Why no to the trampoline? DTs will spend hours and hours on it

In the absence of a tree house then a tent . Great for chilling out in, quiet time reading, setting up a base for toys, if it is big enough for two you could do a sleep out ( lucky you) . A good swing, (preferably suspended from a tree!) Or a hammock. Swing ball, basket ball hoop, skipping rope, small balls if you have a wall to throw them against that won’t drive neighbours mad, quoits, croquet, giant jenga.

frederick Gibberd, the architect got council workmen to slightly divert the stream running through his garden in Harlow and built his grandchildren a fort, complete with a proper moat and a working drawbridge. Now that is the sort of grandpa every child needs! You can visit the garden and go in the fort, Gibberd Garden, Harlow, Essex. There is a swing too, hung from a tree of course.

Thelnebriati · 15/06/2022 13:14

Paddling pool, water pistols and targets.
Tent or tipi, with picnic gear.

At that age mine loved Boules.
