Blood test, had this text through??

Hi

So to put it simply, I'm freaking out a little I'm a worrier anyway I had a blood test done last Thursday. I have been bottle feeding my baby since birth and have still not had a period 8 months later, so they're checking things are okay....

This is 1st time after a blood test that I've had a text saying I need to make a routine phone consultation with the doctor to discuss them. Surely if it was all okay I wouldn't need to? Just a bit worried now 😕

Has anyone else has this?

Thanks x

The clue is in the word 'routine' here. If you needed an urgent appt with GP, they would've made the effort to contact you. Please don't worry, you're prob just mildly deficient in something.💐

I'm a long way from the maternity years but ... yes I get these and they always involve advice to take more B12, folic acid, Vit D or something. Sometimes they prescribe it.

It's the arranging the 'routine phone consultation' that's the problem ...

Thanks for putting my mind at ease! Xx

Yes I had that. Was low vit D then low iron.
Don't panic - if it was serious they would be ringing you for an urgent appt.

SpinMeARiver · 14/06/2022 16:10

Just a thought. Do you have any online access to your summary record, @Twdfn123?

Whatever slight deficiency it is, it's probably there, and then you can maybe start taking whatever supplement you might need. I bought my Vit D (higher strength) from Asda in the end, as I couldn't get an appointment for over 2 months.

Are you generally eating well?

Livebythecoast · 14/06/2022 16:33

Up until recently, I worked in a GP surgery. Other posters are right, it will be a slight deficiency in something, folate, B12, iron - something like that. Some of our clinicians would send a text saying something along the lines of 'your blood tests showed you have a folate deficiency, we have sent some folic acid tablets to your pharmacy' whereas other clinicians will just want a chat and make sure you're doing okay, recommend some foods etc for your deficiency - it really depends on the clinician. Please don't panic - 'routine' to clinicians is 'whenever you get the chance' !

If you don’t have online access to your test results, you can ask to collect a copy tomorrow and then you’ll know what you need to do. Do you know what they tested?

Do you have access to your NHS record on the app?

If not I would request it to put your mind at rest until you can get an appointment. Then you can see test results etc.
