I don't understand - covid related

Gah, two years in and we finally have covid in the home. 10 days ago we stayed at a holiday cottage with my parents. They both tested positive on the Tuesday, although it was apparent that they had been positive for a while (a different thread and yes, i'm annoyed they travelled without testing despite very obvious symptoms). My partner and I both tested negative on the Tuesday.
Since getting home my partner tested positive on Saturday, I remain negative (tested Saturday and today). My exposure to both parents was much greater than his - hugs, kisses etc and now I am in very close quarters with my partner - we are never more than ten meters away from each other - yet he's got it and I haven't. I do feel like I'm fighting an infection, 38.3 degree temp, aching, sweating, cold etc yet am still negative. So, what gives?

I think you have it but tests are so hit and miss

Took me a few days after symptoms before testing positive. Equally no one else in my house caught it from me and I didn't isolate in a room I was about the house the whole time so exposure doesn't equal automatic infection. It's a weird virus.

I do know people who've had covid twice who have never had a positive LFT. Given you have covid in the house and are feeling unwell, assume you have it I think.

It can take a few days to test positive.

It took my 5 days to show positive, even with very clear symptoms.

Thanks all. It really is a weird virus. I'm basically assuming I have it (and obviously I'm not going out and spreading it - unlike my parents.) Just odd that my partner is showing positive and I'm not with exactly the same length of time period to exposure (and more actual exposure to me).
