If you’ve bought a budget coffee machine or if not a machine but have found a way to make a really nice coffee or even if you use an instant coffee but you think it’s amazing please tell me about it.

I’m a Costa addict but I’ve got to stop, I really can’t afford it anymore.

Melitta Caffeo Solo bean to cup. Brand new on eBay, starts at around £250.

Love mine, tells you when it needs cleaning, lovely fresh ground coffee every time.

Get a cafetière and spend the money on decent coffee.

We use an Aeropress. Simple, much cheaper than a machine, makes good coffee (well, of course requires decent coffee in it!) doesn't take up much room on the counter, easy to clean.
We do have a grinder too for whole beans.

My DH loves Costa but loves this just as much

Moka pot.... Should be e be able to pick one up for £10-15.

I like my Tassimo so far. It's only been a couple of weeks but it's used at least once a day and the coffee is lovely - I've been using the costa latte a lot.

catfunk · 13/06/2022 00:09

Sage barista express are brilliant. I got mine on Fb marketplace.

Agree. We have the cheapest coffee grinder from John Lewis (? £25) and the coffee is far better than from any coffee shop.

But I drink black coffee so it's only the coffee that matters for me. We had a Tassimo but got rid of it as the coffee tasted pretty bad.

We have a Beko espresso machine that and has a milk frother. It cost about £65. The build quality is rubbish but the coffee is really good. Loads better than the Dualit machine it replaced.

veneeroftheyear · 13/06/2022 06:17

No good on a really tight budget obviously but good if you want a proper machine.

TheTeenageYears · 13/06/2022 06:22

You can get a Nespresso subscription with a machine for £1 which is yours to keep after the 2 years. Credit can be used on pods and accessories and for up to 6 months after the minimum 24 months if you choose to cancel. www.nespresso.com/uk/en/subscription/machine-subscription

ivykaty44 · 13/06/2022 06:28

I have a bean to cup machine, previous I had a tassimo for £15 but worked out the pods were costing a fair bit.

I used Amazon and order a machine which had been returned due to cosmetic appearance

paid £150 instead of £330 and it’s got a small scuff on the side - which is hidden anyway

£3.50 for a bag of coffee beans which lasts me about 5 days

ivykaty44 · 13/06/2022 06:29

This machine but with a small scuff

MissyB1 · 13/06/2022 08:27

Having been the owner of far too many coffee machines over the years, I honestly believe a cafetiere is the way to go, just buy a hand held frother - about £10. Heat your milk in the microwave.

LakeFlyPie · 13/06/2022 08:32

Spend on a burr grinder before you spend on a machine. Good grinder and moka pot or cafetière will make better coffee than a rubbish grinder IMHO

toastofthetown · 13/06/2022 08:42

Not sure what you mean by “budget”, could be £50, some people in the coffee world that would be £5000!

I have a Sage Bambino Plus (around £3-400, depending on sales) and love it. It’s a small machine, but feature rich for its size and price point. It’s simple to use, will steam milk excellently automatically and can adapt to either freshly ground or pre-ground coffee depending on the baskets used.

It’s worth considering that it doesn’t come with an integrated grinder, so if you want to grind your own then you’ll need to invest more money into an espresso capable grinder. Though as I don’t drink it as espresso, I found using pre ground coffee was fine, especially for milky drinks.

Naurse · 13/06/2022 09:04

Aeropress. Best for the environment, best for single cups (though can make multiple ones), and really easy on cleaning.

Arnaquer · 13/06/2022 09:08

A cafetière or a simple filter machine is all you need.

Roundaboot · 13/06/2022 09:10

Thirding Aeropress. It's such a simple way to make good coffee and it's really portable too - I took mine camping this year!
I've also got a DeLonghi Icona machine (about £200) which I use daily. It's super easy to use and has a milk frother too,

Mabelface · 13/06/2022 09:10

I have a basic drip filter coffee machine that was around £25 plus a coffee grinder that I picked up cheap from lidl. I have Lavassa beans on subscribe and save with amazon and my coffee is lovely. I also have an aero press for when I go into the office.

sunshineandsuddenshowers · 13/06/2022 09:11

ankther vote for a stove top moka plus grinder and frother

toastofthetown · 13/06/2022 09:15

I’ll also mention the V60 on this thread. You can pick one up for under £10, only ongoing cost is filter papers which are very cheap and coffee. Makes delicious coffee, easily to make one cup or scale up to a few with a carafe, no need for a pouring kettle (I don’t have one and still enjoy the coffee).

If you don’t want to invest in a grinder immediately or at all, many specialty coffee complies will grind to different fineness to suit different processes.

BertieBotts · 13/06/2022 13:34

Cafetiere is my choice, IKEA or a bodum one from Amazon.

Otherwise we have a tasimmo which is great as does milk without having to clean a milk section and tastes great.
