Lower oral hygiene after pandemic - what about you?

Well, not lower exactly, but later!

Pre-Covid i had a commute and had to be on an early train every day.

No way in the world would I ever leave home without brushing my teeth & interdental'ing thoroughly.

Now I work from home.

I walk the dog early - don't brush first.

I have my first Zoom maybe 8.45 / 9.00 - don't brush teeth as am having coffee, then several more.

Probably gets to a break around 11 (or later) when I finally brush my teeth for the first time that day. Evening routine is unchanged.

Will be interesting (🙈) how my next check up goes.

Anyone else the same? What slightly scuzzy habit have you acquired since lockdown?

Could have written this post! Recent dentist trip implies no negative impact (yet) but it feels a bit... gross.

CornishGem1975 · 12/06/2022 20:05

It's the first thing I do after getting out of bed! I couldn't contemplate eating or drinking without doing it as it tastes gross.

Porkydorky · 12/06/2022 20:07

I brush and use mouthwash as before, but my annual dental checks have not featured since 2019. I don’t feel any issues at the moment, but I’m worried about what the dentist might find when he finally does get a look in there. Thanks for the reminder to try to book a check up and full clean again.

Yuck. Not typical at all!! Oral hygiene the same
as it’s ever been!!

Mooserp · 12/06/2022 20:12

Yes I'm the same. I normally do some sort of exercise before I start work, but don't always brush my teeth. I wasn't sure if it was laziness or a sign of low level depression 🥴

Cravingsweets · 12/06/2022 20:28

Like CornishGem it's the first thing I do after getting up (maybe second after having a wee). My mouth feels gross and I can't start the day without brushing my teeth.

ChocolateHippo · 12/06/2022 20:36

I definitely feel better after brushing first thing in the morning but isn't the 'rule' that you should brush at night and at one other time during the day (at least)? I might be wrong, but not sure that brushing mid-morning or even at lunchtime is necessarily going to have any effect on dental health.

EinsteinaGogo · 12/06/2022 20:53

I'm open to that, @CornishGem1975 !

I've always had coffee the moment I wake up so never brushed my teeth first.

Obviously always done it thoroughly before work (outside of the house).

Definitely less urgency now working from home 😳

Those of you who brush on immediate waking - do you drink tea or coffee first thing?

I brush my teeth before coming downstairs in the morning, that hasn’t changed. My shower habits have though, I now wash my hair every other day and bathe in the evening, whereas I used to wash my hair in the shower every morning and then have a bath in the evening, most nights too.

LynneBenfield · 12/06/2022 20:58

I do drink coffee in the morning, yes, but I can’t say as it’s an issue for me.

Glad that I'm not alone, @bravotango !
