Anyone got any experience with Eczema?

GP keeps saying this is dry skin.

But all the pigment in my skin from the area is gone and it just keeps getting worse Sad

I've tried all the emollient creams he's given and nothing has worked. Have also tried Aveeno and Child's Farm

Doesn't this look a bit like eczema? I thought it did but he says it isn't And it's just dry skin caused by pregnancy

Have you tried CeraVe?

Yes Sad think it was either a blue and white or green and white bottle

Not an expert, so I could be something else but it looks like the eczema I had until I was 20.

Ouch, that looks sore! I’m no medical expert but I’ve had eczema all my life and I’d say that definitely needs steroid cream. I’ve always had betnovate, then there’s a weaker one and then hydrocortisone cream. I use aveeno body lotion daily but you might need aqueous cream on that a few times a day until it calms down. I also don’t eat much dairy which I find helps and I can’t tolerate some washing powders (fairy is one of the worst despite its claims about baby soft skin!)

It does look like more than dry skin to me.

I haven't seen that loss of pigmentation with eczema before though (and we're an atopic family), but I just googled and apparently it can happen.

Eczema expert here after looking after my dd for the last 13 years with severe eczema. That needs a steroid cream most definitely

AppleCharlottie · 12/06/2022 13:00

Yes, I would be using a steroid too.

Looks like eczema to me.

My DS had really sore eczema as a child

Things that really helped:

Oat bath - oats in a pop sock and tied in a knot so they didn't escape into the bath water- really softened the water and soothed the skin.

Steroid cream.

Aveeno cream and Pure Potion cream (Holland & barret - its non- steroidal).

They key I found was to treat the eczema as directed by the doctor using the steroid cream and moisturise regularly unit it looked clear - then treat with steroid cream STILL every 2nd day, still moisturise, for a few more days until I was completely sure it was clear.

Then keep up with moisturise and oat baths regardless.

We got there in the end but had to be tenacious with it.

Pure potion I found was a game changer. Its good for chapped lips also.

You could try bathing it in warm salt water a couple of times a day, 15 mins each time. We're an eczema family (2 eczema prone kids), it often looks like what's in your picture when it flares up behind their knees, and we have better success with daily salt water bathing than with the steroid creams.

You can buy table salt in bulk 1kg bags from the supermarket - very cheap. 1 or 2 cups of salt in a full bath, or a few tablespoons in a basin of warm water to just do feet / ankles.

Good luck Flowers

It being on a joint is also typical of eczema.

I agree with Betnovate. It can be bought online now too if getting an appt at the GP is difficult.

I grew up having eczema, and that looks very like it to me. You could try an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream, and see if that helps. If not, you may need to push your GP to prescribe something stronger. Some are very resistant to prescribing steroid creams - but I couldn't manage my eczema without them!

GalactatingGoddess · 12/06/2022 14:26

I've had eczema my whole life and DD has eczema (same type) also. It does look like eczema and I would push for a further look at it from GP.

What I would do if I had that patch of eczema is:

  • get it reduced with steroid cream (I've had hydrocortisone/betnovate and Elecon creams)
  • then as soon as it's reduced and sorted I'd stop the steroid and go heavy maintenance and moisture by using MooGoo full cream or udder cream, and then figuring out what triggers it. Stress/diet/sleep/cleaning stuff etc

Also yes, re the pigment, I've had both pigment drop out and discolouration that I am still healing years on from my eczema

Thanks so much!

It's just on the front of the foot/ankle. It's awful as when it flairs I find it hard to actually flex my ankle! Very strange

Maybe going to try a different GP now too

Sudocrem is good as well to actually heal it but you need moisturiser too otherwise the skin ends up like paper. I am using Oilatum at the moment.
