Help! I have an mfl job interview Monday. Been out of the classroom for nearly 9 years. In interview, have to teach 60 minute top set Yr 9 lesson on clothes. Totally did NOT expect to get interview, so v ill prepared and no time to observe a lesson even. ( I have an observation booked for later in the week as I was thinking of returning to teaching, then unexpectedly got this interview). EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED SO MUCH!!!!! Bearing in mind I have zero time, what one thing would you look for in a good mfl teacher, or what would you want to see in a good lesson? Or what top tip would you pass on? Thanks.

Well done on getting an interview!

Don't worry too much about how much things have changed. The school will want to see things that always count, like how you build relationships with students, your planning, ability to break down information, questioning and subject knowledge. Plan a lesson you are comfortable with and can adapt if necessary.

Be calm, be confident and sell yourself! Good luck!

It's important to find out how things have changed - go on an MFL teachers' website or network to help.
Think of the outcomes of your lesson, and the vocabulary you need to teach.
Ensure that you have a list of names and needs - you'll need to demonstrate inclusivity for all eg AEN, EAL, ASD, PP etc. You should demonstrate good class management and good subject knowledge, supporting additional needs, giving opportunity for evaluation and extension.
They don't look for mini plenaries now, just ensure learning by feedback and checking.

Thank you. V helpful. I don't think I'll get the job, but I don't want to look foolish!!!

You’re in a very good chance, we’ve had a trauma trying to recruit.

Relationships, chunking information and challenging the more able, as well as updating yourself on the new format of the GCSE. Looking at people we interviewed this year, subject knowledge was an issue, I think I would not apply for a job that requires A level if my French was barely GCSE standard!

Go and try to enjoy the process, hopefully the student panel won’t ask you your favourite joke or what animal you’d be! 🤣

Make sure you get some assessment for learning in. Mini whiteboard are great for that.
