Planning a second baby (first baby born in January)
If all goes to plan (IVF baby) then my first born will be 16 months when the 2nd child is born.

Am I gone crazy thinking this is manageable?

What is the age gap between your children/ you and your siblings.

Any pros/cons to having such a small age gap?

Thank you

Having a small gap in my worst nightmare tbh! I would not be able to cope with a toddler and baby. We have a 7 year gap between ours. If we had another it would be when baby starts school so 4-5 years.

People have a variety of age gaps from roughly 9 months to around 20 years maybe more. Families come in all.shapes and sizes and there will be up and downsides to all of them. I would do what feels right for you and dont worry too much about what may or may not happen.

I have 22 months between my first two and then 18 months between the next two. It was a bit manic at times, but they remain close as adults. From my POV they were all at school within a few years of each other and I cold resume my career.

I have 14 months between 1 and 2 then 10 months later came number 3

Was very hard work at the time but I loved every minute of it and would do it again

Now all 3 are grown adults and very very close

DipperandMabel · 11/06/2022 21:56

15 months between my first two - fine but hard work. I wanted them to be close together so they would be close which they are! x

3 years between mine. Youngest is almost 2 and it has been very very hard! I think a smaller age gap would’ve been easier to be honest!

It's perfectly manageable but whether you can manage it no one can say but you really. My children are older now but when they were babies that kind of age gap wasn't unusual and everyone seemed to manage OK. Now it seems that anything under 2 years is considered close together, I don't know why things have changed aside from financial issues.

WorkCleanRepeat · 11/06/2022 22:24

There is a 17 month age gap between my two. It was busy in the early days as you would expect but not unmanageable.

They are 5 and 6 now and both in school. I'm glad I had them close together, it makes it easy to plan activities etc

tigerandtea · 11/06/2022 22:32

Mine are 16 months apart. Honestly, the first 10 or 11 months were hell on earth. The jump from 1-2 was 1000x harder than 0-1. Do not underestimate it.

But now they're a few months older it's already wonderful. So it was worth it. Just.

What @Hellocatshome said.

Some people love that their dc are close in age, for others it is the worst nightmare.
Some people have placid, chilled out babies, and others have some that are more challenging.
Some families end up with lot of medical appointments etc. Others don't.
Some people have lots of family close by willing to lend a hand, others don't. Some people have both parents woth others have no-one woth.
Some families have one or both parents who work ridiculously long hours, others don't.

All these ^ things make differences, as I am sure do many others I have forgotten.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 11/06/2022 23:43

I really don't think that is an unusual age gap.

Whether it's manageable or not is personal to you.

I had twins and managed! Grin
