Has anyone managed to successfully change unhealthy eating habits without going on a 'diet'?

I developed some very unhealthy eating habits over lockdown, and whereas I would have always enjoyed a treat in moderation, I now find it very hard to control myself with junk food and I'll literally just keep going until I feel sick 🙈 On top of this, ds was born at the start of covid and I've not lost any of the baby weight, so this combined with my unhealthy eating had led to yoyo dieting (vicious cycle).

Has anyone been in a similar situation and managed to change their habits? I find that the diets do the biggest damage, as I will lose up to 10lbs, then fall of the wagon spectacularly and put it all back on. Would like to be able to just reset and be able to have a wholesome healthy diet without needing to stick rigidly to a plan, or constantly count calories.

Said this before on here. what worked for me was slowly removing the obvious carbs. Bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. Not all at once but a week or so at at a time. I lost my carb/sugar tooth. Had no urge for crap. I do have days off, but mainly it's lots of fruit, veggies, nuts. I'm veggie and don't drink alcohol. I do eat lots of cheese.
I walk loads but it never made a difference to my weight, but the above did.

I tend to find I have to calorie count to bring my brain and body back to what is a normal or lower calorie intake. Its so easy to just scoff a few things and think that's OK it was only toast or a few chunks of cheese. Those calories really add up.
After a while you can then be less bothered by the counting but keep your eye in sensibly. I've also started two meals a day as I'm trying to lose weight. So I either have a bigger, later breakfast/brunch and then a good dinner or I skip breakfast and have lunch and dinner.
For me I noticed any sweet treat leads to an urge to binge so I try and have savory treats instead.
It's a long road and I've decided to see it as a slow forever trend rather than a silly 6 months lose 2 stone goal that I then fail.

Oh op. I hear you. I am really really struggling with this.

In the last year I've put on 3 stone of the 4 I lost 7 years ago. I feel fat, unhealthy and unfit.

I desperately want to feel fit and healthy. I don't care too much about slim, I'd happily have a bmi of about 27 that I maintain whilst feeling energetic and content and balanced.

I have read ALL the books. I get the clean eating, I get the intuitive eating, I get the low carb/keto stuff and the whole food/plant based bits. I cannot stick to anything and it's making me really really unhappy.

So do let me know.
