Quick question about airport delays please.

Are delays at all airports, all airlines, all destinations?

I'm looking to book a flight from Glasgow to Belfast in a few weeks. Where can I find out if it's likely to be impacted?

Thanks Flowers

No can tell you that, or if they can could they include next week's Lottery numbers too 😀

Noone can tell me if it affects all flights, or point me towards where I can keep updated?

Really?

None of the stories I'm reading in the news mentions Scottish airports. I'm clinging on to this as I'm flying from Glasgow for my holidays!

No it’s not everywhere or all airlines. Mainly Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham airports and TUI and easy jet flights but other airports and airlines can have issues too. Just look at the departures and arrivals on the airport websites over a few days to get the feel for that route.

I have travelled from Glasgow numerous times over the last few months … no issues at all .
going again tomorrow!

Enjoy your break

Thank you.

All I've seen on news is about English airports too (or more accurately London 🙄) and flights to European holiday destinations. Just because they're not reporting on Scotland being impacted certainly doesn't mean they're not, if history demonstrates anything 😉

I did notice a Glasgow - London flight cancelled on the Glasgow live departure board, but not sure if that's because of the widely reported issues or just coincidence.

I guess I'll just have to keep checking.

If I take out insurance with the flight would that cover a cancellation, or just allow a different flight? Accommodation isn't a concern, but if the flights get cancelled, I think we'd be better off rearranging for another time (autistic household, wouldn't be able to handle just waiting around)

Ugh, what a pain.

I hope your holiday goes ahead as planned 🤞

I flew out/back to Stansted recently. This just means I have paid attention.

wrt problems with flights,
EasyJet & Manchester airport are mentioned constantly.
There's one other airport... East Midlands or Brum? often mentioned.

Stansted was a zoo but not mentioned once in news.
RyanAir has been mentioned only a tiny bit.

There is variation in where/who problems.

EMA have been fine, and well prepared!

Thank you! It's handy to know its not affecting ALL flights.

We'd be flying with Easyjet.

I will keep an eye on the departures for the airports

Thanks 😊

Fingers crossed your flight isn't impacted.

Where are you heading to? Would you mind coming back to let me know how it goes?

Thanks 😊

I think it is so dependent on the time of day, whether you need to check a bag in, and the airport. I flew out of Birmingham, hand luggage only, on Wednesday afternoon, and the security queue was 15 minutes. But apparently the TUI check in queues had been hours, in the early morning security was very long, and all their flights were showing as delayed where my KLM flight was bang on time.

Coming back from Schipol, I queued for 90 minutes in security there, and 25 minutes back through passport control at Birmingham. The luggage hall at Birmingham looked like chaos.

Looking at social media about Glasgow/Belfast airport queues is probably the best way to predict the pattern at those airports. BHX has something mad like 75% of passengers going out in a 3 hour window daily

It sounds like a hit or miss, who knows kind of situation then. ☹️

We'd be booking special assistance for the airport. Not sure if that will help with at least some of the hectic-ness and likelihood of somewhere safe to sit and wait.

I flew belfast to Glasgow on Wednesday and back on Thursday. I'm happy to report I had absolutely no problems whatsoever. 😊

kittensinthekitchen · 11/06/2022 17:44

Thank you @CMOTDibbler I hadn't thought about checking tagged posts on social media - am guessing just looking for each airport on Twitter is probably the way to go.

We'd be flying teatime from Glasgow on a Friday, back on the Monday early evening from Belfast. Most of what I've heard is holidaymakers being affected so maybe a domestic internal flight is less likely to be impacted?

Ugh its so hard to know isn't it? Chaotic scenes will just not work for us as a group. ☹️

We flew Glasgow to Belfast City for the holiday weekend. Only had hand luggage so didn't need to check in at the airport. Arrived 2 hours before flight - there was 6 other people in the queue for security! Was absolutely fine. When we arrived back there was a long queue at the EasyJet check in desks but it was moving quick.

I hope your trip goes smoothly but please don't think that your specific flight is in any way connected to any historic flight. That's not how it works, I know someone whose fight was cancelled comin back from holiday in one of the Spanish islands (cant remember which one) but only that flight, other flights were leaving the airport going to different UK airports and she got a flight the next day that wasn't cancelled to her original airport

Each flight is an individual entity, there's not a schedule of which ones will be affected and it's not related to what happened to that filight on a different day.

babbi · 11/06/2022 21:01

@kittensinthekitchen

no worries … I’ll let you tomorrow how it’s gone
… off to Spain this time
