Can anyone recommend a budget smart phone for me, thanks

My previous phone was a Huawei phone. I was experiencing some issues with the phone after about 2 years. It was the battery. The phone was heating up too easily and my phone was warped.

I bought a new phone. It made sense to me to stay with Huawei because that was the brand my 2/3 previous smartphones.

I found an offer on amazon for a Huawei phone. Its the nova8i. I was only attracted to it because it was half price. It was delivered earlier this week and I am shocked at how bad this phone is. Its a nice looking phone and the screen is nice. Straight away I noticed some issues. It doesn't have a slot of an sd card if I want to expand the storage. It doesn't support Google services. I'm beginning to miss some Google things already.

I'm looking for a new budget smart phone. Something with a large screen and a phone that will support Google services.

I like Motorola, I currently have a Moto G7 play, which has access to all the Google apps. Good battery , the only thing is I don't find the camera very good

I was actually going to recommend Huawei, as that is what I have had for the last few phones! I will agree with batteries not being very long lived, but that seems the case with most phones as far as I can tell.
Mine does have SD slot and support Google services though. But I feel you should have picked up on those things when reading the spec/checking reviews so I'm not sure you can blame the phone.

DH swears by Redmi, his last few have been Redmi Note and he does get much better battery life than I do.

We never spent more than £150 on a new phone, so depends what 'budget' means to you.

Samsung A41

Another vote for RedMi here! Though after 3 years my battery is starting to go as well and it doesn't seem to be replaceable.

I just got an Oppo as a replacement - basically because its what my phone provider offered me as an upgrade but it was just over £100 new and seems fine (though I am not remotely interested in phones beyond if they run the fairly standard apps I use. )

DH and I both have Oppos and are happy with them.

My mum has got a basic Nokia smartphone - very user friendly and cheap too

Get a decent reconditioned phone. Works for me every time.

I love Motorola. My last phone was G7 Play and it was amazing until I repeatedly dropped it, smashed it and finally submerged it. And it was still working perfectly but the screen was not economic to repair.

I have a OnePlus now and it is fine, but I would get another Motorola next time.

What's your budget? I bought my Samsung A12 from Amazon in February and I'm really happy with it. Was about £120 from memory.

I have a Nokia 8.1. I had not had a smartphone before and this is just wonderful. Awesome camera. But what do you mean by budget?

BarbaraofSeville · 11/06/2022 18:49

Another vote for a Motorola. I have the G7 Power which is now 2/3/4 years old, I lose count. Still fine, battery lasts a couple of days. Just look to see what version fits in your budget, I think they're up to G10 now, but you might get older versions refurbished.
