In a bedroom above a pub and I can’t sleep

DH and I are away walking for the weekend. We’re staying in a pub with rooms. Not our first time at this place but first in the room above the main bar.

It’s an old building and the normal Friday night pub noise is keeping me awake. They close at midnight 😥

I’m not sure what to do. I’ll be knackered tomorrow as I always wake up by 6am so wouldn’t want another night of this but I know DH (who is asleep) would be disappointed.

Would you stick it out and not be so precious about sleep?

No offence but surely you expect this when staying in a pub?

Hellocatshome · 10/06/2022 23:12

Can you listen to an audio book on your phone? Might help you drift off. If you really can't sleep get out of bed, have a bath/shower, read a book etc. I find being in bed and unable to sleep is a lot worse than just being awake doing something.

crumpet · 10/06/2022 23:12

Yep, unfortunately stick it out. Try to enjoy hearing people have fun, and hopefully get a solid six hours sleep. Good luck

Try listening to some guided meditation/hypnotherapy on YouTube. I recommend Tansy Forrest. Even if you don't get to sleep you will be relaxing your mind and body. Worst thing is stressing about getting to sleep!

Didn’t really think about it as we’ve always been in a room above the restaurant before. And my sleep has got shitty since we last stayed due to peri-menopause.

Put white noise on your phone. You'll drop off

MinnieMountain · 10/06/2022 23:15

Already tried the white noise I use for my tinnitus.
I’m try the meditation.

Rob Brydon’s podcast is good - he has a very soothing voice. Sends me off to sleep nicely.

I regularly stay above a pub and always take earplugs. I'm not sure what to suggest.

MinnieMountain · 10/06/2022 23:19

I’m mainly moaning to strangers as it’s pointless waking DH up 😄

Any books around ? You can guarantee I'll start reading a book, enjoy it and then my eyes get heavy, it really annoys me lol

Sleep stories? There's a couple of good apps, sleepiest is one I use or calm

I did smile at your post - I grew up in pubs so my comfort noise is hearing a background of chatter/glasses being cleared as it's what I always fell asleep to as a child
