Interesting things to do in London with dd 15yo in July

Hi MN hive mind -

I'm heading to London with dd (15yo) on 8th July, need suggestions of things to do that won't have her rolling her eyes the whole weekend! And not just shopping in Primark...

Maybe something a bit unusual, rather than the regular touristy things (although I'm up for some cheesiness!)

Also interesting (yet teenager 'safe') eating ideas, not the usual chains.

Budget not amazing but can push things a bit.

Thanks!

Does she like the theatre? I'd book a show and a fancy afternoon tea in one of the big hotels - you can get some decent deals online if you book in advance.

What is she into?

I always recommend the slide at the Orbital in the Olympic Park which is brilliant. Also the ‘Emirates Airline’ cable car with views of Canary Wharf.

Kfjsjdbd · 10/06/2022 21:55

I’d be tempted by Mercato Metropolitano for food

The World of ASMR exhibition or the Bold Tendencies exhibition are both supposed to be excellent

Depends what she's into. My 14yo loves going to the Japan Centre, the mochi shops in the west end and for a mooch around the skate shops in Soho. Bone Daddies is brilliant for food, not expensive and super cool. You could.see a show (so much to choose from - cheaper away from the west end) or a film at the Prince Charles cinema (lots of retro films, singalongs, theme nights etc).

The street art in Waterloo... www.leakestreetarches.london/ (free), this at 180 Strand www.180thestrand.com/future-shock (costs). Outdoor film at Kings Cross/Coal Drops (free and you can buy a picnic from Waitrose or there are lots of good, if expensive takeaways).

Graffiti tunnels at Leeke Street by Waterloo Station

blue421 · 10/06/2022 22:04

Sorry crossed post , not plagiarism I promise!

theremustonlybeone · 10/06/2022 22:06

Science tea at ampersands is pretty impressive and went down a treat my my two American teen guests. To be honest just walking round trafalgar square and around there is cool. Take a boat from embankment to Greenwich and have a potter round the market. Cable car is cool as well as the slide at Olympic park.

DialsMavis · 10/06/2022 22:06

Yes to Graffiti tunnels, is The House of Vans still there? They have fun stuff going on, or used to last time I went

Or go window shopping in Liberty, wander around Carnaby St area, eat at one of the restaurants in Kingly Court (several cheap options including Pizza Pilgrims and Shoryu) and then a walk through China Town?

Hoolihan · 10/06/2022 22:09

Waterloo tunnels is a good shout and you could combine with the food market in Lower Marsh.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 10/06/2022 22:10

Was coming onto say Orbital slide, they loved that and it's a nice spot for picnic
I know it's totally the opposite of not touristy but took a combo of teens (and one toddler) on London eye a year or so ago & they all loved it (me not so much)
Again the teens loved the Tate Modern and it's free
In Walthamstow so bit out of the centre but we went here earlier this year - perfect place for a visit, you can have a nice cold beer & she can get many pics for the 'gram
www.godsownjunkyard.co.uk/
Peruse around Camden market, lots of nice places to eat, street food spots which our teens enjoyed
Window shopping around Carnaby Street

My 15yo Dd loves Camden. River cruise could be glorious in July, South bank is lovely. I like Brick lane and museum of childhood Bethnal Green.
