Spending money on a school trip?

I know it's a total first world problem... Feel free to roll your eyes.

Do kids still take spending money on a school trip? Year 1, day trip to local SeaLife centre. Is a fiver enough for a pencil and rubber type souvenir?

My DC school they don't take money.

My ds is y6, they have never allowed spending money on trips from reception to y6.

Our dc school has always specified if money is allowed and how much if so, I’d ask class teacher.

We rarely factor in time for a visit to shop on school trips to this type of place as a) it takes SO long for them to choose b) some of them have no money so what do we do with them?

skgnome · 10/06/2022 17:49

DD’s school always says no, me being the email reader / rule following person that I am used to never send money, she always came back with something one of her friends gave her…
so after trip 2 I started sending her with a bi mr of money - sometimes the school says no to the shop,
I send her with as much money I’m comfortable for her to loose… so anything between 1 and 5

Definitely not. Mine have just been on a y6 trip to Legoland and were allowed to bring a max of £20, first time ever on a school trip. We are able to afford it but I think it should be no money at all, they don't need to go to the shop and it is very very unfair on those that can bring a quid and buy nothing and those that can bring £20.

I've not taught in a school where pocket money on a trip was a thing in the past decade. We're usually too busy to spend time flicking through the shop!

Usually, I'll spend £1 per child to get them all a pencil or magnet. I buy them on my pre-trip visit so they're all ready to hand out back at school before they go home.

Thank you. That makes sense.
