Is this a scam?

Just had an email about a working from home tax rebate. They're asking for a lot of personal details. I did apply for it but just worried now it's a scam. What do you lot think?

Is this a scam?

100% scam.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 10/06/2022 15:48

It looks like a claim company. Did you do the tax rebate request through the official gov gateway website?

GreenLunchBox · 10/06/2022 15:49

I would say definitely a scam.

Scam

Batshittery · 10/06/2022 15:52

Your image is too small to see (since the rubbish website update).
Just do it yourself through the .gov website. It's very easy

JauntyJinty · 10/06/2022 15:53

I can't see the picture properly,. but at best it's a company that will charge you £££ to do a job you can easily do yourself

Iamnotamermaid · 10/06/2022 15:59

It started during lockdown but was web based. Have they now stopped this?

What you have there looks like a scam - originally it was an official government website.

Junebughustle · 10/06/2022 16:01

Looks like a scam - what was the email address they used? Sometimes they look legit but with some small typos etc.

Contact your banks etc immediately.

Nobody should ever ask you for your documents unsolicited. That should be a huge red flag.

SunnyShiner · 10/06/2022 16:02

That's a scam

SunnyShiner · 10/06/2022 16:03

Check the reviews on Trustpilot. And cancel it asap.

lassof · 10/06/2022 16:06

deffo not legit.

Crunchymum · 10/06/2022 16:09

It doesn't have your name on it?

It just says "Dear"

And it asks for your account number and sort code? You didn't provide this did you?

lassof · 10/06/2022 16:11

Quick google and it's not a company that's going to sell your data, it's a company that takes your money from hmrc (any tax rebate you are due at all) and keeps half.
Be careful in case they make misleading claims to hmrc on your behalf as you will be the one paying back the tax due

KateMcCallister · 10/06/2022 16:33

Scam. Do it directly through hmrc on the .gov website.

anniegun · 10/06/2022 16:36

scam

JetBlackSteed · 10/06/2022 16:38

Definitely scam. Did you supply your actual bank details?

OneFrenchEgg · 10/06/2022 17:41

Looks like a company seeking to charge you for the rebate. Just do it yourself

WhiskerPatrol · 10/06/2022 17:44

Of course it's a scam. It hasn't even been spell-checked! FFS.

WhiteFire · 10/06/2022 17:53

Did you give them all your details?

If yes please ring the fraud department at your bank now.

SunnyShiner · 10/06/2022 19:57

Any money HMRC owe you will be paid to them now. They're disgusting if you Google how they work.

emmarocks · 10/06/2022 21:04

Don't worry they don't have any of my details apart from my name and email. I just filled out a query form months and months ago. I'll do it through the government website instead. I don't think I'm owed much anyway!

OP posts:
MrsSkylerWhite · 10/06/2022 21:05

Yep. Hope you didn’t give any personal information. If you did, call your bank, etc., now.

emmarocks · 10/06/2022 21:11

No I wouldn't ever give out bank details!

OP posts:
WhiteFire · 10/06/2022 22:43

Sorry OP from your post I thought you meant you had sent all your details and then worried it was a scam on this occasion.

lassof · 11/06/2022 06:29

Have you read the trustpilot reviews yet? Unfortunately I think this will be a problem for you even if you haven't yet given them your bank details as hmrc will go ahead and give them your money anyway.
There is apparently a helpful Facebook group
