Comedy gig, Jason Manford with teen son!

I'm booked to see Jason Manford in August in a small theatre with ds 15.
He wanted to see him and I don't know much about his stand up. Is he very rude?
We are 5 rows from the front, does he pick on the crowd much or just the front row I'm petrified he will, I'd be mortified!

He's great live. A bit cheeky but not mean. He tends to speak with those directly I front of him so think 5th row would be fine.

That's a relief it was him or Jimmy Carr so thought Jason would be safer bet!!

I saw him a few weeks ago and the show was perfectly suitable for teens. It was properly funny, but very safe (in a good way). You'll have a great time.

The support act when we saw him was another matter entirely. Not a good 'fit' at all, and would have offended a fair few people I imagine (and was pretty graphic in some of his references, which I'd have found it very uncomfortable with a teen) but I think that's probably the exception- it's a different support every show.

You'll have a great time! Your teen may be quite baffled by the encore, but you'll love it!

And there is audience participation, but it's entirely self-selecting, so you'll be fine!

@ReviewingTheSituation brilliant thanks so much, I was starting to worry I haven't been to a comedy gig in years but he sounds a bit more like Peter Kay style so safe enough.

I went to see a comedian from Liverpool with my then 16yr old. I spent the whole time trying to hide my face. It was funny though and great training for when we went to see Jimmy carr 6 months later 😂

Greenstar22 · 10/06/2022 09:22

@Mandymood you're brave, I'm definitely not ready for Jimmy carr😂

Don't ever go and see Frankie Boyle then. He picks on everyone. Front row, second row, people at the back, people returning/going to the loo, the camera operator... you name it. He kept returning to the guy sat two seats away from us. He said he looked like a cross between an aborted baby and Ross Kemp. Absolutely horrendous.

Greenstar22 · 10/06/2022 09:32

Oh that's horrendous, I wouldn't be able to relax at all! I don't mind a bit of piss taking (not out of me!) But nothing to mean, I'll be giving Frankie Boyle a miss

Yep - like Peter Kay. Just really good feel-good comedy. It was our first time in a theatre post covid, and it was such a good night!

Jason definitely the safer bet. I saw Jimmy Carr when he started out, and was glad to be at the back of the pub concerned.
