Help! Baby clothes shrinking

Why are my baby's clothes shrinking? I wash at 30 degrees with gentle detergent and fabric softener and always dry on the airer or line outside but after multiple wears and washes clothes are slowly shrinking. What could be causing this and how can I stop it?

Stop feeding your baby steak and mashed potatoes.

My first thought is a simple solution - it's not the clothes - your baby is simply getting bigger?!

It sometimes seems as though clothes are shrinking when I'm washing baby clothes, then I realise there's been a growth spurt/it's time for the next size up! 😁

I've noticed this too - it is so annoying. Doesn't matter how carefully I wash stuff, within a couple of weeks it's tiny. Some things I've taken back to the shop and asked for a refund if it's very very different to the unwashed but same size. Fabric should generally be pre shrunk, but obvs it saves money to skip that step so manufacturers do. Very frustrating, and expensive.

i had the same problem until DD reached 16yo, then it stopped. I think it was because I stopped using Ariel Ultra.

If it's cotton jersey type material then try stretching them out and ironing them stretched. I have to do this with my PJs to make the legs long enough.
Then again, ironing is a bad habit to get into ...

Tbh my first thought was also - are you sure it's not that your baby is growing!

KangarooKenny · 10/06/2022 06:19

When they are wet are you giving them a pull to stretch them out ?

@MintyMoocow 😂😂😂😂

Your baby needs the next size up 😁

It's normal. Buy second hand clothes or account for it when you shop. It happens more with cheaply produced clothes - H&M and Primark are the worst offenders. H&M t-shirts always twist as well - totally weird.
