Is this plastic that I'm finding in the end sips of my coffee??

Hi everyone, I've never drank coffee until the last6 months or or. I use almond milk, sweetner and if there's none left then sugar.

I've always stuck to nescafe gold which I've never had an issue with. The coffee I'm useing which is the one I'm talking about, is the nescafe original.

At times I've noticed the end sip makes my throat feel funny like I swallowed a foreign object. One time something was left in my mouth, I take it out and its multiple small, thin, perfectly square peices of plastic (i think its plastic??) . So thin that I could snap them. At first I shrugged it off because maybe I contaminated it somehow?

Anyway a couple times after that I was a little more aware when swallowing it and noticed how it still felt like there was something in those last few sips as if something has sunken to the bottom. I kept shrugging off like maybe I didn't stir it properly but it just felt different to those unstired bits.

Today I got to the last sip and ended up takeing out multiple peices out of my mouth again. I put them in the bin. I looked at the bottom of the cup and there is 2 peices of it, I get them out and break them up to try and figure out what it is.. but all I can think off is plastic? What else could this be!!!

I've made coffee useing the other products and I've never had this issue until useing the new coffee.

Is it plastic, is it or something else?

The peices are smaller than they look, I zoomed in.

Is this plastic that I'm finding in the end sips of my coffee??

Limescale from your kettle

MumstedInadequate · 09/06/2022 15:23

They look like limescale from the kettle to me. Harmless I think but annoying.
Are they crunchy?

Sophie1029734 · 09/06/2022 15:27

Oh that makes sense, I didn't even know that was a thing until now 😳

Look inside your kettle and you will see them floating around the bottom. You can use Oust or some white vinegar to remove it.

I have to do mine about once a month due to the hard water in my area

I also would say limescale from the kettle. It's awful when your coffee ends up crunching!
A good descaled should do the trick.

Limescale. Lemon juice is a good natural descaler. Stick a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice in your kettle, top up with water, boil and leave overnight. Rinse out in the morning and it should be spotless

100% definitely limescale!

Yes that's limescale. Must admit I had a good giggle at this OP. Grin

White vinegar as PPs have mentioned is great. We also have a kettle with a built in water filter as we live in a very hard water area, godsend.
