Bring your own future friend

Just read about this elsewhere and wondered what things people do...

Only one I can think of is I often reverse into a space so it's easy to leave 😂

Laundry washed overnight on a timer to hang out first thing.

I love this, and first heard it from TOMM. I try to bear it in mind through my day, so getting things done early, not putting things off.
I make sure to keep on top of the laundry.
I leave my workout clothes ready to put on straight away when I get up.
If I'm going to take my lunch to work, I make it the evening before.
If I use something up I write it on the shopping list straight away.
I use headings on my shopping list, eg chilled, frozen, so that I can get through it easily when I go shopping.
This is something I constantly tweak. I was a messy and disorganised when I was young, and I've worked hard to get on top of things over the years.

The other night I went out after work and had one too many drinks to cycle home afterwards and so found a convenient post to lock it to (this was Future Friend Good Decision number one, realising that I was far too inebriated to be on the roads.) BUT! I also remembered to take a photo of the street sign where I left my bicycle so I’d know where to retrieve it from the next day! I was so proud of myself, Drunk Comtesse never does Future Comtesse favours like that!

Meal planning. Rarely have to dash to the shops for anything.

Solosunrise · 09/06/2022 18:09

Laying my clothes out the night before.

I work in different places so I park my car on the road facing the way I'll need to go next day.

I used to leave the washing up of an evening but now DH and I leave the kitchen ready for next day with washing up done, kettle full and breakfast stuff out. Makes a world of difference!

I thought this was going to be about time travel Grin

On the same theme, force yourself to drink a pint of water before you go to sleep if you have had a few drinks, and make sure there's a fresh pint of water on your bedside table for when you wake up.

After washing the bed sheets I put them straight back on. Tired me thanks past me. Nothing worse than fighting with sheets when your sleepy.

coodawoodashooda · 09/06/2022 18:21

Tired me putting diesel in the car for future me.

Playplayaway · 09/06/2022 18:24

Make extra lasagne to eat cold for lunch the next day.

BusySittingDown · 09/06/2022 18:27

Cleaning the house before I go on holiday so that it feels lovely when I get back. Sometimes I feel like I could say bollocks to it, I won't see the mess for at least a week but it always feels lovely getting back to a lovely, clean house with nothing to do but chill until it's time to go back to work.

I often take the washing to the laundrette whilst on holiday too so that I don't have mountains of it to do when I get home!

Thanking past me for that tonight! Yum 😋

For me it’s every little decision I want to put off…like doing the dishwasher. I think “I’m tired, I’ll do it tomorrow” but chances are I’ll be tired tomorrow too. So I just do it.

I also get my clothes out the night before, especially on work days. This also gives me chance to wash something and air overnight if I need it!

Every time you exercise you’re helping future you, investing in your health- the more you do, the easier it gets.

Finally a big one is don’t snooze your alarm. Get up when it goes off. You’ll feel less groggy later. There’s a TED talk on that one..
