Bloody loops of ribbon on items of clothing

Anyone else hate them? Anyone else use them? I never have, I think they're pointless and annoying and I cut them off every time. Serve no purpose.

Yes, I hate them too.

mrsfoof · 09/06/2022 07:15

I cut them off and keep them to attach gift labels to presents 🎁

Moosake · 09/06/2022 07:16

The ones they put in to help hang it up? I find them handy for some items.

LubaLuca · 09/06/2022 07:18

Of course you snip them out. They're mainly to keep garments in place during transportation and display in shops, although I have had a couple of slippy tops/dresses that I've kept them in.

I often keep them in my sewing box and I have used quite a few over the years, putting them on fancy dress costumes or to make hanging loops on things like towels.

Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 09/06/2022 07:23

Yeah they’re not really for you they’re for the shop. It’s annoying if you forget to cut them out I agree.

Moosake · 09/06/2022 07:25

It's also to help take the strain off of dresses etc and help them keep their shape. If you hang a heavy dress off some tiny shoulder straps it helps to have the ribbons for hanging too.

WeDoNotTalktoPennilynLott · 09/06/2022 07:51

I cut them off straight away, I hate when you can see them hanging out of clothes that people are wearing.

Oldraver · 09/06/2022 08:58

I sometimes keep them on if the dress has a wide neck

I had a colleague that would always run over and try and tuck some in on my wide necked cat top. She just didn't get I couldn't give a damn

Making hanging loops on towels - brilliant idea. I need some loops for my face cloths (which DH & DD always manage to knock off the hook in the shower).

I like them for fidgeting with as a change from rubbing at my chin whiskers.

I usually snip them out! But save them for crafts, handy to make Xmas decs with or to zips which are at the back of a dress. But depends on the item on question. If the material is slippy so doesn't stay on the hanger I keep them on so that I can tie round coat hanger

Yodaisawally · 09/06/2022 13:02

They seem to be longer than ever. I've just bought two cheapo t shorts from Sainsbury's, the loops are so big I could fit my head through them

ofwarren · 09/06/2022 13:04

I hate them
On some of my dresses I end up putting my arm through the loop when putting it on and getting into a right tangle.

stargirl1701 · 09/06/2022 13:04

Better than plastic.

I put them in my ribbon box for my DC and take some into school for infant classes.

greenacrylicpaint · 09/06/2022 13:09

better than the big elastic bands that yoy sometimes get in sports clothing (why?)
strangulation risk and itchy when sweaty. and if you cut it off you are left with a scratchy raised bit.

the thin ones are perfect to tie tomato vines to it's support.

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2022 13:10

I use them when hanging the clothes up to help them stay on the hanger and keep their shape.

Nookable · 09/06/2022 13:17

Love that this thread has turned into uses for them. I use them to secure the ends of my plaits.

jessieminto · 09/06/2022 13:34

@EatSleepReplete the ikea face clothes have different coloured loops on. Think they come in packs of 5 or 10, it's been a while since the toddler years.

I'd use one colour for hands and face...and so on! Wink

darisdet · 09/06/2022 13:37

I keep them if they're a nice colour and put them in the sewing box, otherwise snipped off and in the bin they go.

I kept them on one top to stop it slipping off the hanger.

thenightsky · 09/06/2022 13:39

If the garment has a wide neck, I wind them round my bra shoulder straps to stop the top sliping sideways off my shoulder

KatherineofGaunt · 09/06/2022 13:42

I keep them on things like cardigans that don't have any buttons or wide-necked dresses/tops, to keep them on the hanger when I actually hang them up but otherwise cut them. I keep them too for crafts!

FunnysInLaJardin · 09/06/2022 13:44

I used to cut them off before I realised how useful they were.

I have one top which doesn't fit onto a coat hanger as the neck is too wide and I only realised this after I had cut one ribbon off! Now it wont hang properly 😩
