Mental health/learning disability celebrities

Ok so I could have this totally wrong. Could be talking total crap .

So when I hear of celebs saying they have had mental health issues or learning difficulties. It feels like celebs are saying hey we have problems as well I had depression (example) and I had to get counselling which really helped. Or simlar with a disability.

For familys on low income we can't just go and get counselling for ourself or our children. Private tutors or private schools ect . Some of our children suffer as well ie suicidal thoughts mental health etc but we have to wait months /years for camhs and you have to fight to even get on the waiting list..

It just feels like when a celebs talk about this sort of thing there's massive empathy. And it seems like it matters more.

I just wish everyone could get help and not have to wait for months and fight for it at their most vulnerable.

I have lost my way and don't even know what im talking about anymore . I'm still going to post anyway.

Sorry to hear you're struggling. I think it is actually quite helpful to me to hear when famous people have struggled too. Kind of counters the idea that money brings happiness.

Yes I get that thats definitely true . But money can buy help/therapy. But for people who don't have that. It could be months/years of suffering . I wounder how many people have harmed themselves or ended their lives or symptoms have got much worse whilst waiting.

I do get what your saying though. I guess everyone looks at things in different ways

I do know what you mean. I've never really forgiven Stephen Fry for being so positive about managing bipolar disorder without medication. He has huge resources and at the time was unmarried. My husband stopped his meds soon after that (different condition) and disappeared, leaving me looking after a 2 year old and flogging stuff on ebay to make up for the unpaid leave I took from work. Even when the struggle is televised, it tends to be a very sanitised version.

I agree; it can be a bit of a mixed blessing. Yes, sure, raising awareness is great, but sometimes it can make everything look very easy. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time.
