Does anyone use gousto? If so how do you find it . And what's your general opinion?

I have used it a handful of times . When there are offers on. I'm not that good at organising and it's hard to cook from scratch and juggle the kids etc.

Another thing I was wondering is there anything thats simlar ? I tried hello fresh but I don't understand their site at all. It confused me. So I have not actually ordered from there.

Their plant based meals are really good. (Recommended by a meat eater)....

emmathedilemma · 07/06/2022 16:00

I agree, their veggie meals are good and I've had quite a few fish dishes that I would never have cooked otherwise. I get one about once a month as it's too expensive to do all the time. I think the choice of meals is better with Gusto than Hello Fresh and I cancelled my HF account as the quality of fresh produce wasn't always good and they kept missing ingredients.
There's mindful chef which is similar but healthier meals.

StormTreader · 07/06/2022 16:25

I started using them when the Pandemic started and just never stopped - I live alone so I use them to entirely replace my "main weekly shop".
It's not a cheap way of getting food but it stops me just living on frozen pizza.

I agree with previous posters - I've found the ingredient quality generally better than I got from HF.

playtest12 · 07/06/2022 16:27

I love it, we've been doing it for about 3 years, 4 days a week.

We waste far less food, I don't have to meal plan, and it's all measured out so I don't overfeed us, which I used to do loads.

I highly recommend it. You do get a wrong/missing ingredient a couple times a year, but once you report it on the app they immediately refund you the cost of the ingredient.

CornishPorsche · 07/06/2022 16:34

I love it. We get it roughly fortnightly, occasionally dropping it to monthly. Here's this week's box. We had the Texan chicken last night, and it was lovely. We rarely have a crap recipe - maybe twice in three years we've not enjoyed it?

I remake the recipes and use the folders of recipe cards to meal plan!

Shamelessly posting a referral link - you get 65% off your first box and then 30%off any additional boxes for your first month. I get £20 credit towards my next box too 😁

Gousto
Kezzie200 · 07/06/2022 16:37

I used them after daughter left for uni and before son went. That's not relevant except that...

My son is now an amazing cook who loves to experiment and try different things. My daughter tends to cook normal run of the mill stuff.

I'm sure it's my sons experience with gousto as the recipes were easy to follow and everything there, so it started his interest off.

We stopped not long after he left as it was just the two of us so not such good value, but I did really like them.

Fleurty · 07/06/2022 16:39

I used to use them but after a while I started getting really terrible service. After 3 weeks in a row of the box not turning up I cancelled, and they refused to pay back my 'credit' from a previous box that had loads of ingredients missing. So basically I ended up paying for food I never received.

Will never use them again as the inconvenience of having no food turn up when you're expecting a week's meals is too much.

BlueBlueCowWondering · 07/06/2022 16:43

I found it poor quality, and lousy customer service. Wouldn't sign up again

majorquimby · 07/06/2022 16:44

We use it about 3 weeks a month and love it. So many of the recipes contain ingredients which are the sort of thing you have round the house anyway but just wouldn't normally put together. I'd consider myself a pretty competent / adventurous cook, but I feel like it's definitely taught me to think differently about how to construct meals / what things I can put together.

It's probably more expensive than buying the exact same ingredients at the supermarket, but it saves on waste for us - it's just two of us so just having the one carrot / egg / spring onion you need rather than having to buy a whole pack is much better. It also prevents me impulse buying in the supermarket which I am awful for, so in a weird way it actually saves us money.

We are on our non-Gousto week this week, when we just try and use up leftovers, stuff in the freezer etc, and I'm looking forward to next week when we go back on it!

I have this link /offer as well. But I don't know anyone who will use it. 😭

I have enjoyed the meals so far. And with mental health issues abd child with special needs it really helps . So I will do it as much as I can afford to

We've been using Gousto for several years.

I like that we don't generate any food waste.

I like that my DCs enjoy making their meals (win-win for me).

I think it is good value - £50 for 16 portions, which easily stretch to 20+ portions.

We have been exposed to new ways of cooking, which is amazing as I have been cooking for over 40 years.

Oh I definitely agree on the no food waste and portion sizes. I'm hoping it will help me loose a bit of weight.

I really like it, recipes are so easy and quick

i always do it when there is an offer on or we have a busy week, it helps portion size and no waste which is good!

CraftyGin · 07/06/2022 16:53

I wouldn't say the recipes are quick. The majority we get are around 40 minutes.

CornishPorsche · 07/06/2022 17:55

You can pick the recipes based on they take to make - the majority of mine are under 30mins although I sometimes pick a few longer ones. I always include at least one 10-15min recipe so I can cook in a hurry when want to.

Shoxfordian · 07/06/2022 18:03

Gousto has some good options although it can be a little repetitive and they have some strange ideas sometimes- clotted cream burger?! Wtf

StormTreader · 08/06/2022 13:25

Oh yeah, I love the 10 minute ones and also the "prepped in 5" meals - I tend to get 3 meals a week and only one or rarely two will be 30-40 minute ones.

Just signed up to this to see what the fuss is about using another Mumnetter's code. Sharing my link if anyone else wants to give it a go.

Big fan of Gousto. Wasn't so keen on Hello Fresh.
