www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/4564026-change-in-format-of-response-to-report-emails

A user posted in Site Stuff earlier today to say that they'd received a response to a report they'd made, then noticed it included the other user's name and email address.

Justine has said the following

We had a temporary glitch with 'Report this post' for a short time today which meant the email of the person reported was included in the report and in a few cases in responses to those reports. This applies to a very small number of users and we'll be contacting them shortly to let them know. Our DPO has been informed and on his advice we'll report it the ICO if appropriate. Please be assured the issue is now fixed. We will of course be examining how it happened to ensure it never happens again. We're really sorry for any concern caused.
**

Has anyone been contacted? If you've noticed you've had a comment deleted today, beware, the person who reported it might have access to your personal information.

Yes, that's worryingly inadequate

I changed to a throw-away email address for MN after Jeffery-gate and discovered only months later that they had retained all users' previous registered email addresses (making change to throwaway in effect useless)

Given the reappearance of old deleted PMs, I am somewhat concerned again about MN standards, and what other old stuff could reappear and where

The best response is to invite in ICO and get their help in putting it right.

This is quite worrying as the email address I used to use for MN contained my husband's name (I used his email) I have changed to a burner email but if the old emails are still about there wasn't much point.

MrsEthelMorningtonCrescent · 08/06/2022 01:02

This may have already been said, but, whether or not Mumsnet decide they need to inform the ICO, there's nothing to stop any of those affected (nor any Mumsnetter frankly, as we don't seem to know for sure if we HAVE been affected) to complain to the ICO as an individual, about any and all data breaches and how they are (or were) handled/not handled, as far as I can tell. Mumsnet really need to sort themselves out on this, they seem to have more data breaches than might be reasonable for an organisation of this size. One is too many. Twice or more is careless.

Probably best just to delete your account and re register if you are worried, I have done this a couple of times as you never know what old data is kept, it's not like you get extra privileges for being a long term poster.

missdemeanors · 08/06/2022 08:26

This is depressingly reminiscent of previous data breaches .... you can almost hear tinkly little embarrassed giggles at MNHQ, oopsie, another little glitch, oh well, we're doing our best...

This is a multi million revenue business yet it feels likes it's run from someone's front room in between the school runs.

What's it going to take for them to wake up and take their responsibilities as a huge Internet forum seriously?

exceot a few days ago they’d suspended new registrations, due to a prolific troll they just couldn’t keep out. It seems all the info they had on IP addresses etc to keep out banned posters has been lost in the switch to the new platform.

icelollycraving · 08/06/2022 16:19

This is shocking. I’ve been posting for 11 years. I’m considering deleting my account. Much of what I post is crap but I wouldn’t want someone linking any of it to me. I report creepy posters. The ones naive people respond to about toileting/teenage girls etc. I don’t want a troll having my bloody email address ffs.
The site is massive now but as a pp said, it’s seemingly run like a little business from home.

icelollycraving · 08/06/2022 16:22

Previous people on the thread have said they stored previous email details. If you delete your account, does it all go or can someone still leak your email? My email was one of the ones leaked previously in the Jeffrey fiasco.

What's the Jeffrey fiasco?

Ladywiddio · 08/06/2022 16:24

I reported a post the other day,I did get that posters email address in the notification from Mumsnet.

icelollycraving · 08/06/2022 16:31

@Moosake it was a massive hack of mumsnet. I think it was 3000 email address and log ins leaked online.

Do you still have the email? What time and date was it?

I reported a post Monday and received a reply at 18.20 containing the email address and name of the poster.
In this case though it was a spammer.
