‘Overnight supervision’ for A levels. Any exams officers about?

Urgent advice greatly appreciated…

We had been informed by the sixth form college that they were likely to arrange overnight supervision as DC has nearly 7 hours of exams on one day (two exams with extra time).

They have very recently said that this is not possible as the JCQ states that there needs to be 6 hours+ across three exams, not two.

Does anyone know if they can use their discretion with this ‘two exam rule’?

Also, surely if someone has extra time due to poor concentration then it’s unfair/ discriminatory to make them sit a second exam after a lunch break that is shorter than the NT students’ break?

Any information at all from those with relevant experience would be appreciated.

No they can’t, the hours are set. Plus no one wants their child ‘supervised’ they will be fine.

@superram do you have any relevant experience in this area? It doesn’t sound like it- the supervision happens at home.

JCQ regs only apply if 3 exams
Your dc will need to sit them both in one day

I used to invigilate, extra time students always started the next exam at the same time as the other students IME. Yes, they will have a shorter break if there are two exams in the same day - they did this with the mock exams as well so the students were used to it. What did your child do in the mocks?

Probably too late now, but can you ask your college if there is any flexibility on timing?
Usually exams only have to start within 1 hr of the start time, so eg with a 9am & 2pm exam, maybe they could delay start for the 2pm until 2:45 for your DC in a separate room to give a longer break?
