Weighted blanket, worth it?

I've been toying with the idea for a while now. Just wondering if anyone has one and what benefits they feel they get from it and also, do they make you too hot?

Someone bought me one and it went for me. Made me feel suffocated.

But to each their own.

TeenPlusCat · 06/06/2022 08:55

We got DD, 17, one for Christmas, and she says it helps calm her for sleep (anxiety). If she gets too hot she pushes it off.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 06/06/2022 09:56

They are bloody marvellous.

Itshothothot · 06/06/2022 10:00

Dd who is 9 has one. It stopped her night terrors.

dontgobaconmyheart · 06/06/2022 10:07

I never use mine. Was very optimistic about them as in theory I'm a good candidate for one.

I found it a bit awkward and stifling and wouldn't have been able to use it in the summer. It got kicked off the bed one night, lingered hopefully on the floor for a few days and then I gave up and put it away in the cupboard.

AllFreeOwls · 06/06/2022 10:19

I find mine works really well, very pleased with it.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 06/06/2022 10:21

Not if you are any way prone to heat/hot flushes. DS11 lasted about 5 mins, I find it struggling as it was all polyester so didn’t breathe at all

bought a gravity blanket as can return used so at least didn’t lose out

TeenPlusCat · 06/06/2022 10:21

With DD we have tied the bottom end to the bedstead (very helpful loops at the corners) which helps it to not fall off.

I wouldn't get one without trying this first:

Fitted sheet on bed, place a flat sheet over the top then put your regular duvet or blankets over the top. Tuck in tightly but roll the top down a bit.

When you get into bed, it's the same type of feeling and if too hot, you can throw the duvet off and just have the sheet.

Ds loves his and won't go anywhere without it (overnight), dd doesn't like hers.

Fizzgigg · 06/06/2022 16:01

I adore mine. Really helps with restless legs and hip pain.

I have different covers so a cosy fleecy one for winter and a light sheet type one for summer and I use it instead of a duvet in warmer weather so not too hot.

User3568975431146 · 06/06/2022 16:11

I use two 9kg ones, one in top of the other. Best investment I've ever made, I love them!

Allthegoodnamesaregoneffs · 07/06/2022 09:53

Love mine, really helped me sleep as I always struggled to fall asleep and stay asleep

Flatandhappy · 07/06/2022 09:58

I bought one for DD recently, she chose the lighter 4.5tog one and absolutely loves it. She has anxiety and is in the middle of Uni exams and was struggling to sleep, she says it helps.

TeenPlusCat · 07/06/2022 10:03

iirc the weight is meant to be no more than ~10% of your weight.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/06/2022 10:04

Sold mine after one night. Felt like l was being trapped.

Delatron · 07/06/2022 10:10

I like the feeling of being weighted down and that does help me sleep. Better in Winter though. I’m still using it now but will have to ditch when it warms up.

OldEvilOwl · 08/06/2022 17:16

I got one that was too heavy. I like it, but don't like it for more than 10mins

ScoobyDoNot · 08/06/2022 17:19

I have the mela one and it's the best thing I've been bought.
I suffer with anxiety and restless legs and it's helped massively.

If you get one, I highly recommend the mela. It's not made with polyester so I've never found i get too hot.

Titsywoo · 08/06/2022 17:21

Got one for DS who is autistic and it has been great for him. I used it a lot during a period of anxiety and it definitely helped.

clary · 08/06/2022 17:26

DD has anxiety, and poor MH generally, and also probably ASC; I bought her one and she really likes it. It may be psychosomatic (sp) but that's fine. I got it from a firm which does a variety of weights and DD is small and slim so I got a light one - technically it might be a bit light but that's better than too heavy I reckon. DD's has a cover you can remove to wash which I would say was a MUST. The cover has a fluffy side and a cooler side as well.

clary · 08/06/2022 17:27

It cost quite a lot btw (the price of them has a big range) but I think worth is for the removable cover; cannot see how you could wash the whole blanket if no removable cover.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 08/06/2022 17:31

I saw this on twitter 🙂

Weighted blanket, worth it?
Ladyofthepeonies · 08/06/2022 18:01

Had mine for over a year and I love it, it’s bamboo and I rarely get too hot and it’s amazing on my restless legs too. I based mine on 10% of the weight I should be not the weight I am

THANK YOU!
I appreciate all your replies. I reckon I will invest. Thanks again :-)
