Guilt at calling in sick

Does anyone else get this?
I’ve got a stinking cold and DD has chickenpox. I have to be home with her as can’t go to nursery, but would also have called sick with this cold.

i feel so guilty whenever I phone in sick, it’s not often honestly, but I always feel like I’m faking it/lying/exaggerating.

work are always ok, but I know I’m putting more work on others (patient facing role).

if you don’t have guilt, please tell me how!

Same here, I feel guilty for the other staff but what can we do? Our children come first.

I even feel guilty asking for my holidays so calling in sick is even worse! I think it’s natural OP! Try not to worry and just have a rest.

Yes I get it. I have covid and will have to call in sick but feel guilty (even though they would chase me from the building with pitchforks if I went in). It's just an automatic response to feeling like you're "letting people down" with a soupcon of anxiety that they don't believe you.

Just try and keep telling yourself it's a totally legitimate reason !which it is! And get better soon.

Eugh same! I don't know how people do it but I only call in sick if I am at deaths door.

Yes, I'm with you....this is actually me today. I have never called in sick at all since I started my current job, but last night I had to text to say I can't come in, I was too ill yesterday and certainly not up to it this morning. I feel dreadful about it, I have broken my record of 'never being off', I shall lose money (they don't pay if we're not in) and I still feel rotten.
I worked over the bank holiday but had Sunday off already booked, I hope they don't think I'm off because I was partying or anything (no such luck!) and I feel guilty for those who are in on a Monday-after-the-weekend and who are picking up the slack....

Don't have guilt, be factual. I think you may be thought of better for phoning in and not getting another family member to do so, or texting or some other method of contact.

No I never feel guilty at phoning in sick! Why would I? It's not something I can control and I'm not a keyworker or anything like that. I don't understand why anyone would feel guilty for being ill.
