I am fuming we moved on wed new rental. There are no light fittings down to bare wire(?) Interior Door handles removed . Bulbs taken out of oven and fridge. Garden full of broken plants. Pen/paint on small bits of carpet.
Yet we been sent a 60 page inventory too upset to open it yet.
We left our old rental immaculate £300 clean all carpets washed oven cleaned etc.
We've photographed the new place to show what it's like .
Just upset I guess. Anyone had similar?

Did you view? Did the paperwork say you would have these things included?

ScootsMcHoy · 05/06/2022 20:21

No because it's not legal to rent a house to someone with bare wires and no door handles!

Hugasauras · 05/06/2022 20:22

That sounds nuts! Does landlord know it was left in this state? Confused

LividLaVidaLoca · 05/06/2022 20:23

If you moved on Wednesday why haven’t you phoned the landlord as a matter of urgency, or checked the inventory?

Lochnessgiraffe · 05/06/2022 20:24

We viewed it all looked fine.
they did all the painting we asked but previous tenants took washing machine fridge and dishwasher which were supposed to stay. Just spend the bank holidays getting new stuff. Even though we were supposed to have it.

That's Nucking Futs.

what have you done about it?

Lochnessgiraffe · 05/06/2022 20:26

Interior door handles are missing. They also cut the door bell outside and inside

Lochnessgiraffe · 05/06/2022 20:27

We got the inventory on Thursday via email. It's been a bank holiday weekend. Will call tomorrow

Just spend the bank holidays getting new stuff. Even though we were supposed to have it.

I wouldn't do that, the landlord should be replacing everything.

CornishPorsche · 05/06/2022 20:29

I'm assuming you've not been given nor signed an inventory on moving in? Have you not contacted the landlord / letting agent? What was their response?

Lochnessgiraffe · 05/06/2022 20:31

when I collected the keys the letting agent said woops no white goods. Didn't Realise they belonged to 2x previous tenants not landlord so unlike previous tenants they took them with them

CornishPorsche · 05/06/2022 20:31

X-Post. Check the date of the inventory. Consider that the ex-tenant may have returned to the property after they left and caused this damage. When did you arrive at the house? When did you get the keys?

You shouldn't be paying a penny towards this - don't replace a thing. Also make sure the landlord pays to have the locks changed - I wouldn't trust that this isn't a disgruntled ex-tenant who has done this and who still has a spare key.

Lochnessgiraffe · 05/06/2022 20:32

We only got the inventory on Thursday.after we moved in.

Valhalla17 · 05/06/2022 20:32

Why didn't you contact the landlord about this given its theft and criminal damage?

ihatethefuckingmuffin · 05/06/2022 20:36

If the white goods belonged to ex tenants then chances are so did everything else that has been removed.

Didnt you query when keys where handed over how they didn’t know who expensive goods belonged to.

Even though it’s a BH you could have still emailed them or even called them on Wednesday when you moved in.

Hothammock · 05/06/2022 20:39

You have left it a bit late really.
You should have said something the minute you walked in.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/06/2022 20:40

But you don't need an inventory to know there was something seriously wrong with the state of the property when you moved in.

You should have called them straight away, using the emergency contact number if the office was closed.

Some of those things you describe are dangerous, or serious deficiencies at least, that need addressing immediately.

Wickywickyyow · 05/06/2022 20:45

Why didn't you phone the letting agent the second you opened the front door and saw it was all missing?

CornishPorsche · 05/06/2022 20:46

Why on earth didn't you phone the letting agent or landlord on Wednesday? Or their OOH team? Or on Saturday when it wasn't a bank holiday?

You currently run the risk of the agent & LL trying to wash their hands of this an accusing you of the damage.....

orwellwasright · 05/06/2022 20:46

So you've been there four days staring at loose wires and handleless doors, 'too upset' to read an inventory and the first action you take is to moan on Mumsnet?

I know people aren't born with knowledge but you've rented before so this level of incompetence seems bizarre.

taylorsdoinapart · 05/06/2022 20:48

Don't letting agents have emergency contact numbers?

bellac11 · 05/06/2022 20:50

Did you take pictures OP?

TheCanyon · 05/06/2022 20:56

Bulbs taken out of oven and fridge.

but previous tenants took washing machine fridge and dishwasher.

How did they take bulbs out a fridge that apparently no longer exists in the house?

TibetanTerrah · 05/06/2022 20:57

taylorsdoinapart · 05/06/2022 20:48

Don't letting agents have emergency contact numbers?

I rent through a massive letting agent and they have one emergency bloke for repairs only (like when my ceiling nearly caved in for a leak upstairs). I found out during the Easter Bank Holiday that when he is sick, there is no one to cover Angry

Email them now OP ffs.

TaranThePigKeeper · 05/06/2022 21:01

Why didn’t you get on to the letting agents the second you opened the door and saw it all? They were working then. And there’s no way you should have replaced anything which was supposed to be there and was missing. Have you never rented before?
