Are wool duvets the best option for night sweats?

So, afaik I am not premenopausal but since having my children (hormonal maybe?) have suffered from extreme over heating at night, occasionally resulting in sweats. I can go to bed freezing and within a short time am roasting and can sweat. This is made worse by drinking alcohol, which I do, regularly.
If I think back, some of my overheating coincided with buying a new, “good” duvet from John Lewis. It is lightweight but makes no difference- I still can’t regulate my body temperature.
I’m wondering how much is down to a feather duvet, and if I can stay warm but not overheat with something else.
I’ve read that wool duvets are great for this and am happy to try. Any recommendations? Also, any alternatives, please.

My night sweats definitely improved when I changed to the wool duvet but didnt resolve. Mine was caused by an undiagnosed autoimmune disease. I'd had multiple investigations and numerous hospital admissions and no one had joined the dots no criticism of any one as I never mentioned it just thought it was my age they kept looking at my heart!

Baavet pillows definitely, - turn over off too hot and it's instantly cool!
As for duvet, I manage with a medium weight as we've a warm house - always check the bargains, saved £60 or so for grubby marks.

Definitely a game changer for me, we have the woolroom deluxe all seasons duvet. They’re definitely thinner than synthetic but also heavier.
DH wasn’t convinced when I ordered it but is now a total convert. We also have the mattress protector.
I also bought new bedding from Bedfolk which I think has also made a difference, ours is the relaxed cotton as I didn’t want linen ( although do wear linen PJ’s from Piglet) . Natural fibres are so much more breathable and help temperature regulation.

I had an m & S one for years. Got a Baavet after recommendation on here. Great customer service, advised the right weight for me. Lovely!

I've just switched out the slightly heavier Devon wool duvet for the lighter one for summer, loving it to be honest, does regulate your temp very nicely! We have the ones you can join in the middle, DH has a light one year round, we were under a 4.5 tog synthetic which was knackered so these wool duvets feel positively decadent!

Do wool duvets drape well, or do they lie across you?

Despite my overheating issues, I like a duvet that falls into the nooks and crannies.

I'm also in-betweeny which is annoying. I use a 4.5 tog feather duvet in winter (which is too warm this time of year) and have a 2 tog polyester one which isn't quite warm enough at the moment.

Pashazade · 05/06/2022 19:39

I find the 4 tog equivalent drapes nicely, the heavier 7-10 tog sits up a bit and has to be manoeuvred into place 😁

If you buy a wool one make sure it's not a cheap one with a plastic layer inside to hold it all together - that totally defeats the purpose. Ive had my Baavet one 7 years now and pillow.

Ok, I’ve gone for a Devon Duvet summer weight. And will look at teaming with Piglet bed linen, or possibly just their pjs.
Thanks all!

We bought a Woolroom mattress, duvet and pillows avout 6 months ago. I can really recommend them- best money we've spent. I always used to be too hot or too cold, but have had no temperature regulation issues at all since we got them.

I've been trying to decide between different wool duvets for a while now, so I'd love to know how you got on with yours OP. Thankfully my sweats disappeared when I started drinking sage tea, but now I'm just hot all the time. And occasionally freezing, for no reason.

@Cryofthecurlew could you explain why you find the Devon duvet so much better than the Woolroom one? I've not seen many people make a direct comparison and it would be so useful.

PissPotPourri · 22/06/2022 14:45

Hi @Gentleness , only just seen this, sorry!
I went for a Devon Duvet because I read that these can be machine walked while some of the others couldn’t.
I absolutely love it! It has revolutionised my sleep. I haven’t been waking up feeling damp, and I get none of that ‘humid’ feeling I used to get under my previous down duvet.
I love the weight of it- was worried it’d be too light being a summer weight, but it’s heavy. I’m cosy but not hot if that makes sense.

Silk duvet from Soak and Sleep, they have a sale on now!
Amazing!!!

OompaLoompaa · 22/06/2022 15:57

My DH a I switched to single duvets, I have a 4.5 tog one and it’s helped a bit.
