Manifestation /Law of Attraction

Just getting really interested in the idea of manifestation as I've heard it can be really powerful. Can anyone recommend a good but very 'readable' book on the subject?
TIA

I am conflicted when it comes to the Law of attraction, and I would definitely stay away from The Secret as it is much too superficial and mainly focusses on material things. Try Louise Hay instead.
Apart from that I find that gratitide really is the most important part of the Law of attraction, with clear ties to Christianity so you should be in familiar territory. Unfortunately for me, I could never manage the proper gratitude or positivity, so I decided to live my grumpy truth instead:)

Also, read up on the Reticular Activating System (RAS). That's where the multi-million dollar manifesting industry has sprung from – so-called gurus knowing about and exploiting a basic brain function for monetary gain.

Just to add the Abraham Hicks vids on YouTube are free.

I dabbled in it too, it’s essentially the concept of ‘obsession’. If you are completely obsessed with something it is more likely to manifest in your life. Well, dur.

Unfortunately though, being obsessed with wealth (usually what The Secret is used for), turns you into a pretty nasty and selfish person. Avoid.

If you're interested in health and fitness from a Biblical perspective I watched a short one recently. I'll PM you when I find it!

You could check out Lacy Phillip's To Be Magnetic or her Expanded podcast. I would really recommend Roxie Nafousi's Manifest book. I don't recognize a lot of the comments here as being anything to do with manifesting. It's a way to work through limiting beliefs that you picked up through your life experiences and becoming aware of your self-worth. You can (within reason) have what you desire and deserve, and it's about working out what it is within your own behaviour and mindset that's stopping you.

For example, I think so so many women on here in shit relationships would benefit from 'manifesting' a worthy partner, who gives them unparalleled emotional support and unconditional love and works in partnership with them. And no, spoiler alert, it's not about sitting around waiting for some prince to show up! It's about going through a lot of reflective work to identify your own limiting beliefs and raise your self worth around relationships. It's about not settling for less than you deserve and having the confidence to keep looking for what will be right, even if it feels unattainable. It's about recognizing the things that do not serve you, that do not align with the goal you set yourself, so that, in this example, you don't end up in a relationship that isn't good for you.

There is a lot of bullshit around manifesting, but at its core its really about action and working on yourself, like therapy. I think Roxie's book explains it well and removes the woo hoo aspect.

Manifestation isn't a cure for everything, nor is it a wish giver. That said we are all connected, so I believe it is possible to tap into a universal energy and find what we are looking for (to an extent). Sort of like thinking about someone a lot and then they message you...It can definitely work.

I wouldn't buy a book or watch an influencer for inspiration, anything that costs you money or over promises isn't going to work. Head to the beach or a beautiful place and meditate to find what you really want/need vs what you think you want. In my experience there's normally a difference.

There must be a lot of tips from athletes for visualising fitness goals. Good luck and thanks for asking the question, it was nice to ponder on it this afternoon as I walked the dog.

There is so much privilege bound up in the idea that you can manifest something and "the universe" will make it appear. Tell that to the people who have lost their homes in Ukraine or starving communities in Africa, they'll be so thrilled to have a solution to all their problems.

I completely agree but that's really not what manifesting is when taught by non weirdos. You can't work on creating something that is completely outside of your control and outside of the realms of reality. I can work on getting a x% payrise or my dream job in a different field to what I am in now, I can't work on becoming the next Queen of the UK etc.

ballsdeep · 05/06/2022 18:15

I dont get it. If you think good thoughts they will happen?! I am interested to know if you keep thinking bad things , like if you have health anxiety, will the bad things happen too?? No I am told but how can it not be reversed?

Chakraleaf · 05/06/2022 18:18

It does work.

Mumsnet loves to call things woo, yet struggle with so much.

Manifesting works if you do it right.

You mean the women who come on Mumsnet to say their husband beats them black and blue, their children are sick or they themselves have stage 4 cancer simply aren't manifesting in the right way? Gosh, if only they knew how easy it was! 🙄

A friend lent me Louise Hay's Heal Your Life book. About a chapter in she starts spouting shit about being able to heal your cancer and if you don't, it's because you choose to be sick or some such nonsense. I couldn't read on. I felt an overwhelming disgust for her message.

melissasummerfield · 05/06/2022 18:29

I have just started reading just fucking do it and yes it is a bit ‘woo’ but she also talks about being realistic etc.. so that might be worth a read ?

Er, no! Another poster has quite clearly said you can't manifest what you can not control.

There's always one.🙄

Yes, I am that one calling out this crap and I'm happy to be that one. It's utter bollocks and anyone with half a brain cell can see that.

Chakraleaf · 06/06/2022 09:27

Yes, of course 😁🤣
