How early is too early to hoover?

Just realised I might be hoovering too early!

What time do people think is acceptable to hoover from?

For example I just cleaned up my son's toast mess and it's only 7ish

I’m assuming you’re in a flat?

Pebblesandwaves · 05/06/2022 07:17

8.30 on a Saturday and 9/9.30 on a sunday

Caspianberg · 05/06/2022 07:19

Depends if you live on a remote farm or a flat or terrace house

Personally I think having been up, breakfast made and eaten and tidied up before 7am is early on a Sunday. Probably wouldn’t expect before 8.30-9am. You could just use a dustpan and brush for a few toast crumbs

SpindleForTheWorld · 05/06/2022 07:19

On a bank holiday Sunday? A lot later than 7am. At least 9am. Unless you are detached, windows shut.

I have laundry to go on but I’ll wait till after 8am and the machine is next to an outside wall!

Avastmehearties · 05/06/2022 07:19

Depends who might hear. Detached house? Go for it whenever you get the urge! Flat, terrace or semi? Prob from about 0900, I'd say.

SnowyPetals · 05/06/2022 07:20

It depends on you living situation and how early your neighbours get up. General rule of thumb for me is 8am on weekdays and 9am at the weekend.

miserda · 05/06/2022 07:21

There's never just a few! Grin DH is a very messy eater unfortunately, nothing I can do

10am on a Saturday, and 11am on a Sunday.

Smartsub · 05/06/2022 07:21

If you have neighbours who will hear, unless it's obvious they're up an about, I'd wait till 10am at the weekend.

SNAFU247 · 05/06/2022 07:22

We are detached so that might make a difference... but I use the hoover whenever I want!

miserda · 05/06/2022 07:23

I'm semi detached

It's a new build but oddly, I've never heard a peep from next door, ever. She had a loud party for her DD last weekend and you would only know if in the garden (when in the garden then you could hear all the racket). We have spoken before how we think it's strange how we've never heard each other, as new builds usually don't work very well at hiding sounds

Not sure if she can hear a hoover or not, my guess is no really

I suppose things are out of perspective for me because DS wakes at 3. Downstairs for 5.30. Breakfast definitely before 7

I've never heard my attached neighbours hoover 🙈 I wouldn't even think about it. I also have my washing machine on first thing in the morning, and my kids are usually shouting and screeching by 7am no matter the day!

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 05/06/2022 07:24

I have honestly never heard my neighbours Hoover!!

Please say DH is a typo!!

miserda · 05/06/2022 07:27

@TibetanTerrah oh gosh! Yes definitely a typo, meant DS

DH was too though. That is why he's no longer a H... amongst other things

I'm always awake stupidly early (current standard time is 4:44 though not this morning (slept in until 5:30) so I'm wondering if a distant neighbour has an alarm or something at 4:44, that disturbs me even though I'm not aware of it)

I'm 'end of terrace' the older bloke wouldn't hear if I held a concert n the garden & the woman is a smoker, so I know when she's up! So anytime after the smoke drifts in!!

it would just depend specifically on my neighbours, but in your position I'd leave it use a dustpan & brush on a Sunday/Bank Holiday. I don't know why though because it's not like everyone works m- f and Sunday is a day of rest, but I've always known my neighbours enough to know when would bother them & when wouldn't. 💁🏻‍♀️

Vallmo47 · 05/06/2022 07:33

I hoover early and have asked my neighbour if he can hear it, given I live in a semi detached property. He literally laughed in my face and said “Please hoover whenever you want - have you ever heard mine?!”

I make sure all windows and doors are shut though. :)

Lsquiggles · 05/06/2022 07:35

Half 8 on a weekday and 10 on a weekend, you never know what sort of night your neighbours have had and a few crumbs can wait!

JuneJubilee · 05/06/2022 07:36

@ the twat idling his bloody van needs shooting too!!!

springbreak22 · 05/06/2022 07:36

Selfish

LaBellina · 05/06/2022 07:39

Around 7.30 on a weekday and 8.30 during the weekend.

justanotherlaura · 05/06/2022 07:41

I can hear my neighbour hoovering but our semidetached is from the 60s so that's maybe why. I wouldn't hoover til 9am on the weekends personally, although I've heard their washing machine at midnight so they obviously don't have the same considerations

@ the twat idling his bloody van needs shooting too!!!

This has become our biggest source of noise pollution in my street, by far, sometimes all night long - i.e. drop-off cabs up till 4am, van people from 6am.

Idling for ages, windows down, taking loud phone calls on speaker, music blaring, shouting over their own music, engines revving, exhaust fumes belching out ...

It means during hot weather it's not really possible to sleep with bedroom windows open because of the racket.

Just modern life I suppose.
