Taking baby to hairdressers

I need a dry trim before my holidays but struggling for childcare (partner works away). Would it be unreasonable to take my 8 month old with me? He's pretty laid back, and is not on the move yet. I definitely wouldn't if I was going for a colour treatment but for a dry trim I'm not sure if it would be ok? Can't imagine it will take very long. Might have to try doing it myself if so, not sure that would go very well though Grin

Ask the salon.

I don't have a regular hair dressers. Haven't been in ages and I don't go regularly. Therefore just wasn't sure if it's a usual thing people do or not.

You'd be better getting a mobile hairdresser to your house than taking a baby to a salon tbh.

Go for it. A dry trim won't take long and the baby may well be made a fuss of too

MarmiteOnToast · 04/06/2022 19:22

I did. With all Of mine. It wont take long

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 04/06/2022 19:29

My hair dressers has banned children because someone took their baby in and the hair dresser was doing a Colour, he wouldn't stop screeching or crying the whole 4 hours, then he was sick and the hairdresser asked what was wrong and the mum said he had been sick all night but she couldn't miss her appointment.

All 5 of us got it.

Ask them, don't just turn up
With a baby.
People go to the hairdressers to get away from their kids not coo over other ones. Also he might not like the hair dryer and who wants to listen to a baby crying whilst you're having your hair done?

As my hairdresser now says, your lack of child care is not my problem so book an appointment when you have some

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 04/06/2022 19:31

Sorry Seen it's a dry trim.

Won't he get covered in hair?

thebabynanny · 04/06/2022 19:31

Get someone to come to you.

bloodywhitecat · 04/06/2022 19:35

I do, I have taken them since they were tiny. I checked with the salon first but they were more than welcoming. They are now 1 and 2 and sit beautifully while I have a cut and blow dry (then the older one often has a trim too).

MissMaple82 · 04/06/2022 19:41

A dry trim will be totally fine. You'll be in and out, he'll just sit in his pram. I used to take mine all the time

MistyFrequencies · 04/06/2022 19:47

My salon allows kids on Thursday. I love that because I get kid-free time when I choose to go other days.
Ask the salon.

THNG5 · 04/06/2022 19:49

Would it be easier to find a mobile hairdresser to come to you?

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 04/06/2022 19:51

I took my baby to the salon at a similar age, but it's a good idea to check first.

Ginandslippers · 04/06/2022 19:57

We welcome well behaved babies and children at my salon, but would expect you to ask first, and not when coming to a long appointment.

Mariposista · 04/06/2022 20:15

Please don't do it yourself! It will go wrong for sure and you will be miserable for your holiday. If the salon are ok with it, take the baby in a car seat, make sure he's fed, changed beforehand, and as the cut won't take long, he should be fine!

MountainClimber22 · 05/06/2022 00:36

I wouldn't just in case they cry while there and ruin the vibe.

SarahAndQuack · 05/06/2022 00:44

I agree you should ask. FWIW I clicked on this expecting a very different thread about coping with babies who needed haircuts. Grin
