Shameless fishing for ideas thread.

Our cul de sac is having an afternoon get together tomorrow and I'd like to do something savoury for our contribution.

I thought about cheese scones but I'm sure there's not going to be a shortage of sweet scones and it's a bit samey.
Cucumber sandwiches are a bit meh.
I'm tempted just to get heat up some.mini cheese and onion pastry things from Sainsbury's but is that a cop out?

TIA

Some of my favourites for a savoury selection are these:

Little sausage rolls.
Mini quiches.
Dips and crudities.
Cheeses.
Cheese straws.
French bread and butter.
Pate on mini toasts.

Have fun.

Things I’ve done in the same situation:

Cheese straws are always really popular. You can do a selection with things like marmite, olive, sundried tomato and herb etc.

Spanokopita are easy to make and also well received at this sort of event.

French stick sliced, spread with olive tapenade and goats/feta on top. You can bake them or leave them cold.

Savoury muffins

Sweetcorn or courgette fritters with a dip

The french stick and tapenade idea is a really good one.

I would do blinis topped with coronation chicken. Or sliced frenxh stick topped with coronation chicken.

Easy peasy thing I do alot- get a large potato and egg tortilla (tescos or similar). Chop into bite sized squares. Top a third with jarred pesto; a third with sun dried tomatoes and leave a third plain. Stick in cocktail sticks for easy manouveing to mouth and away you go.

Cheese straws are a good call. Do you make your own with puff pastry?

Ooh never thought about tapenade and looks so simple to make. I might try that.

Yes, if I’ve got time. I buy the pastry though.

Bought cheese straws are still a good option.

Delia Smith has a delicious recipe for vegetarian sausage rolls which are very easy. You could make half those and half pork sausage rolls.

If you have a tart tin, a homemade quiche always goes down well. I'm veggie so do leek, new potato, peas and mild goats cheese. For non-veggies anything with bacon seems to go down a storm.

starlingdarling · 04/06/2022 16:11

Oh and no need to make your own pastry! Nobody can really tell. It's the filling that makes them taste so much better than the bland shop bought ones.

These are great ideas, thanks.
