Finally succumbed to bloody covid and...

I have a very high energy 4.5 year old dd, a dog that needs walking, and no help. And I mean none. No family support, father not involved, and no-one else fancies taking either of them off my hands so I can rest, which is understandable.

I feel and utterly totally shit, despite being triple vaxxed and have not had a second today where I haven't had them both climbing all over me, or having to clear up mess created by dd.

Ugh. Can someone suggest how I can keep them entertained with minimal effort? Dd literally is climbing the walls, had to cancel all plans this weekend which she is devastated by. Won't sit and watch a film for more than twenty minutes, has played outside in the garden with the dog for about half an hour, but now is literally clinging to me moaning that she is bored.

I want to cry.

Aargh.

Can you ring round dog walkers so at least the dog gets taken out? Any neighbours (possibly with responsible teenagers who'd do it for pocket money)?

SeaToSki · 04/06/2022 14:56

Put an exercise video on for DD and watch, give her verbal encouragement

hire a dog walker

put dd in the bath for fun water time, add blunt kitchen tools /colander etc and tell her to make a bubble dinner

pray

KindergartenKop · 04/06/2022 15:02

Child in bath with pots and pans and a colander. Add food colouring if you're brave.

covidisbloodyshit · 04/06/2022 15:08

She's gone into the garden again to play fetch with the dog so at least they are getting a runaround and some fresh air...

Time is literally standing still today, and she's never going to go to bed if she hasn't had her usual fix of proper exercise.

Amazon primed her some stuff for tomorrow, we are going to have to miss our street party which again is a double blow.

I am surprised at how appalling I feel. Can barely move from the sofa. Feeling very sorry for myself. It's really upsetting at how really totally and utterly alone we are, despite on the surface having lots of friends etc.

Mrsjayy · 04/06/2022 15:15

Will none of your friends have her for an hour or so tomorrow? Are they scared they will catch covid. It really is rubbish that you have it hopefully she will realise mummy isn't well and be a bit calmer. Look on Facebook for dog walkers.

Lindy2 · 04/06/2022 15:28

Would she watch shorter programmes on CBeebies for longer than a film? Shorter and snappier might hold her attention better. You can lie on the sofa while she watches.

Otherwise different things she doesn't usually play with, like a selection of Tupperware containers and wooden spoons etc. The surprise at having things she doesn't usually play with available might keep her more occupied.

Don't worry about clearing anything up. It can be sorted when you're feeling better.

When we all had Covid DH ordered a big pizza delivery. It went in the fridge and our kids (older than yours) just helped themselves when they were hungry. I know you'll have to help your little one get her food but a big pizza in the fridge will mean you don't need to do much more than put it on a plate.

I'd get a dog walker to take the dog for a while. Even a dog sitter for a day or two if you can afford it.

Every little thing to let you rest as much as you can will help you recover quicker.

covidisbloodyshit · 04/06/2022 15:31

Annoyingly because it's the jubilee weekend, everyone's got plans with family etc. and no-one has offered, the one person I did ask said no.

I find it very difficult to ask for help, used to sorting everything on my bloody own, and as I said, people offer and said 'oh anytime, just ask', but when it comes down to it, everyone is always too busy etc.

Just have to crack on with it I guess. Just come upstairs for a cry as I feel so bloody helpless.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 04/06/2022 15:41

Does she know you are ill are you hiding it from her ? It's difficult to ask for help especially at the weekend, Is she back at school on Monday you might need to just ask someone to come and take her.

covidisbloodyshit · 04/06/2022 15:50

She does know I am ill, keeps trying to check my temp and give me calpol, which is very sweet I suppose. But I've got a pounding headache and feel so bloody achey and feverish.

She's at pre-school, and has an Inset day on Monday, and my mother was meant to have her as I am back to work after half term. My mother won't have her now (unvaccinated, long story) so I guess I've got two more days of this... not sure what the rules are about dropping kids off with covid, as obviously I don't think I will be well enough for work if this carries on like this.

Bless her I hope you feel better soon I had it in March and it is horrible,

Dehzfuxtjcjrzrus · 04/06/2022 20:44

It's the absolute worst 😫 FlowersGin

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 04/06/2022 21:52

Hiya, just wondering how you are doing?
I remember the days when mine were little and I was ill, it was hell.
Hopefully DC is in bed now so you can have an early night.
I second the idea of sticking on a new TV show, short episodes, postman's pat, bing etc then just letting them run. It will be longer than a film and you can lay on the sofa.
If they are an early riser, make sure you have some dry cereal and cup and ipad in bed so DC can crawl in with you and you can go back to sleep!

Kingstonmumof1 · 04/06/2022 22:03

Can you get YouTube on your TV? Perhaps get her doing some just dance tracks tomorrow. Doesn't matter if you don't have the video game, she can just copy the moves. Hope you feel better soon.

HairyScaryMonster · 04/06/2022 22:32

No real restrictions, don't feel bad about dropping her off to pre school. My 4.5yo dodged it despite 8yo getting it twice.

HairyScaryMonster · 04/06/2022 22:36

Can you set up an obstacle course or something for DD? Might not take you too long but I would hope would be enjoyed for quite a while. Or perhaps she could do it herself?

user1471538283 · 05/06/2022 10:15

I remember days like these and they are so tough.

You can only do what you can do from your bed or sofa.

BlackandBlueBird · 05/06/2022 10:25

Oh OP, this is the worst. My heart goes out to you. I know quite a few people who got temporary dog walkers while they were stuck home with covid so that at least might be an option.

Other than that just as everyone else has said - make use of exercise videos for DD on YouTube (cosmic yoga, jump start Jonny and the guys that do ‘cat party’ are all good), order in food… could a neighbour make her up a plate from the street party and leave it at your front door? I can only imagine how gutting this all is.

covidisbloodyshit · 05/06/2022 11:20

Thanks all. Still feel totally and utterly rubbish.

A friend has taken pity on me and taken dd out for the morning. Thank god, so she can't see the street party being set up, literally right outside my front door. She's going to be sad later when she gets back and it all gets started properly Sad

No rest for me though as it's so noisy with everyone outside.

Hopefully dog Walker can take dog tomorrow, but it's going to be another day with no walk for her today. Feel so guilty.

Isaidnoalready · 05/06/2022 11:24

Are the Joe wicks pe lessons from covid still on YouTube? Go noodle is another good one

CandidaAlbicans2 · 05/06/2022 11:51

You could substitute the lack of dog walk for mental exercise, eg playing games of hide a toy or treat (whatever motivates) around the house to find as this will mentally tire the dog out. Perhaps DD could play this with pooch so they both have something to do?

covidisbloodyshit · 06/06/2022 09:42

Just come back to whinge. Bloody dog Walker is refusing to take dog incase he 'catches covid' from her. Dd bouncing off the walls already. Done some craft shit that amused her for approx ten mins. Had to deal with loads of bloody work emails.

I just want to sleep. And I feel like I am being tortured.

OP posts:
crumpet · 06/06/2022 09:45

Are there any good games/apps for her? My dd when you get loved a pony one - grooming, feeding etc, plus all the silly car parking games etc.

crumpet · 06/06/2022 09:46

Bloody Autocorrect . Mine loved a pony one

LilythePunk · 06/06/2022 09:48

Can you give her some crafty type stuff to do? Colouring in, painting, something like that?

TrifleFunny · 06/06/2022 09:56

Could you put a message on social media asking to borrow some toys if your friends are too busy to actually help?

Have you an Argos catalogue or magazine she could circle things to put on birthday/Christmas list?

Sponsored silence or sitting still? Chocolate button for every two minutes or something?
