How can I make this look better?

Pic of my window attached (mirror is no longer there though)

I hate the current roller blinds we have. DP and I live in an apartment complex and neighbours can see in. With the blinds down it blocks out too much light.

What do you think would be best to use instead?

was thinking something like the 2nd pic attached, but how does that work with this window? Would I need to get black blinds instead of white? Would one blind be okay, or do I need 3 separate blinds for each window pane?

appreciate any advice

I think black blinds would look pretty stark and officey, unless that kind of industrial look is your thing (and judging by your inspiration photo, I don't think it is).

Instead I'd go for a wooden blind. Something mid tone, which could look quite mid century with the black window frames.

And definitely one, not three. Three would make it visually fussy.

It's not a big window so one blind would be enough, two would be awkward.

You can get sheer roller blinds that obscure the view but still let in light. You could put that where your current blind is, and move your current blind to the outside. (Ideally get a new blind for outside, eg a roman blind.)

If you definitely want a venetian blind (as per your example), then definitely not black. You can get venetian blinds in different colours.

Alternatively, don't change the blind at all. You can buy film that clings to the window pane to obscure view/let in light.

I had a very similar window and had a single wooden venetian blind, sort of oak coloured. Looked pretty smart I thought.

Would something like this work for you do you think:

I'd put a roller blind up inside the frame rather than the outside. It doesn't draw the eye as much

I think white wooden slats would look fine against the black window and you can angle them so people can't see in but it's still light
Just one blind, inside the window space for simplicity

LookItsMeAgain · 04/06/2022 12:06

Alternatively, get some of the contact that you can apply using just water to the window to give some privacy (still allowing the light to come through during the day) and then get whatever window dressing - curtains, blinds, whatever you want to put on the windows for the evening when you have the lights on.

White is much better than a colour at maximising the light. I speak from experience. We’ve had blinds from blinds2go and I’d recommend them.

Blossomandbee · 04/06/2022 12:11

Venetians would be perfect for what you need with light and privacy. You would only need one blind the width of the window.
Blinds2go are very good. You can order samples from them too. I think grey would be a nice compromise between white and black.
Shutters could be another option, if you had ones that open half height so you could keep the bottom half closed for privacy but the top half open for light.

I'd have White Venetian with tapes in a faux wood 35mm. But I have white framed windows.

Or have a look at perfect for blinds that fit inside each frame.

I second the window film. There are some quite nice ones nowadays. Then add some plants. Either big palms on the floor in front of the window, or some thing that’s a climber and support it with canes or wires.

Yarnasaurus · 04/06/2022 12:25

I had wooden Venetians at my last house which has a large south facing and exposed lounge window. They were perfect for privacy and light.
