How much independence to you give your 5 year old ?

I struggle with anxiety so I wondered if someone could tell me what's normal for you. For example how far away from you would you be ok with them being in a public space? Do you feel you can sit and read/ be on your phone when in the park with them or do you feel the need to watch them. Would you let them explore a different room in a museum where you couldn't see them but you were in the room next door?

I'd be really grateful for any opinions.

Definitely not read a book nor explore a museum room without me! My 6 year old is with me at all times!

Thank you. For those still reading this thread, how far would you let them explore with a 7 yr old family friend?

It would depend where.

I guess for me it's about them wandering around a public space (not childproofed or without strange adults)

In a public space I would want to be able to see them.

I did let DS play largely unsupervised with his older cousin but it was outdoors at a villa we rented.

Or hear them. It's a question of would I know if they needed help.
