Has anyone used Invisalign?

I’m considering giving it a go.

Would you recommend it and how much did it cost??

I think more people should get it done tbh! Not just for cosmetic reasons but because it helps protect your teeth for life from wear and tear/damage from being in bad positions

I used Smile Direct Club online and am so glad I did, honestly can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I smile and even speak to new people without worrying now. I know the online options aren't for everyone but it definitely worked for me

Am currently on tray 6 of 21, 10 day changes so should be done in October, such a difference already absolutely the best thing I have done, bit of planning to keep them in for the 22 hours but easy most days, also stops you snacking and have lost 3 stone (was dieting anyway but this has definitely helped!) I would definitely recommend, paid 3.2k and that includes whitening and bonding at the end

How do they do the trays?

Do you have to have new moulds taken of your teeth/mouth every few weeks and wait for new trays to be made?

You’re all really making me want to get it done even more now!!

I was with a colleague last night and we got on to this topic and she said her friend had used Invisalign and then showed me photos of before and after and the results were phenomenal.

I’m assuming that an overbite can’t be corrected though seeing as they must be related to how the jaw sits as opposed to the actual teeth??

I don’t want to pay out thousands to find it can’t correct my problem.

I’m having my overbite dealt with during the refinements stage- believe I’ll need to wear elastics with the aligners during this part of the treatment

They take very detailed pictures of your teeth and then you get a set of 8+/- Invisalign trays which transition your teeth towards the new position. Every couple of months your orthodontist checks to see how your teeth are moving and you get more trays etc.

For my treatment they did a full scan of the teeth before hand, then I got to see a sort of graphic of the week by week changes.

They calculated 34 trays needed for the first part and all were ordered and delivered at once. My orthodontist gave me a box of 12 or so at a time and booked in appointments for different stages to check progress on track and add/remove attachments.

I’ve just had another scan to get ready for the refinements stage (at tray 28 - so I’m stuck wearing this set until my next appointment /they arrive)

Perplexed0522 · 05/06/2022 11:12

What is the refinement stage?

Quite a few people have
mentioned it.

My Invisalign didn't quite work, when I'd finished all the trays my teeth started moving back out of place and I had to have train tracks for a few months. It was awful as I'd just started a new term as a mature student and was very self conscious of the wire, Invisalign was much better in that respect.

I still didn't get a 100% perfect result but I can smile now without feeling self conscious. And contrary to what others are saying, you don't have to wear a plastic retainer every night for the rest of your life, I chose the other option of getting a permanent wire cemented to the back of the teeth.

They are corrections /alterations to your treatment after the planned treatment stage - as obviously the computer can only estimate what should happen - it just allows them to really refine the final result.

Perplexed0522 · 05/06/2022 11:30

I’ve emailed an Invisalign company which is about 40 minutes away from where I live to arrange a free consultation.

I might also ring up my actual dentist practice and see if they have any orthodontic practitioners there or can recommend anyone.

My husband has wanted laser eye surgery for years and so now we are kind of thinking that he can spend £3k on his eyes and I will spend the same on my teeth and that way it’s fair 😂

Mine was 3.8k which included whitening, fixed wire retainer and retainers for after. I paid around £200 for bonding on my two middle teeth too.
Was definitely worth it and so glad I did it. Is a bit annoying to start getting used to taking them out to eat / drink etc but you get used to it.

NoWigNoWit · 05/06/2022 11:51

I have - I paid around £3995 but had a lot of trays. All in all my treatment was around 9 months.

There were a couple of tweaks here and there which were included in the price. I also had a few teeth filed down a touch too which added £500 to the overall price.

I have never ever looked back! I can clean them properly now, and love my smile 😀

fairgame84 · 05/06/2022 11:56

Best money i ever spent!

Mine cost about £3k. I started in October 2019 and finished May 2020. I initially around 20 trays but they weren't quite right at the end so I had another 14 trays added on for free. I changed trays weekly.
I took them out just for meals and cut out snacks.
At the end of the treatment I had my teeth shaped for free and then whitened which was an extra £50 and they look amazing.
I have retainers that I have to wear every night for the rest of my life but it's worth it.

I had train tracks when I was 16 but was told I didn't need to wear my retainers after 2 years but then my teeth moved back.
My issues we're crossing over of the front top and bottom teeth. Invisalign has straightened them and widened my smile. I had to have 'buttons' stuck on my teeth to help them move.

WhatsTheWeatherLike11 · 05/06/2022 11:58

Mine were 3k.

Had to change the trays every 2 weeks.

Regular trips to the dentist to have teeth filed etc (which I wasn't expecting!)

Little attachments are put on your teeth to 'hook' the tray in which can make it a little more noticeable.

You have to take them out whenever you eat or drink anything (besides water). And I mean anything. Any other even slightly coloured drink will instantly stain them!
Then brush teeth before putting them back in.

You need to keep them in for 22 hours per day.

The first few weeks are painful. I have to say I seriously regretted mine to begin with.

I think they take longer to adjust your teeth than the metal fixed braces as well really.

WhatsTheWeatherLike11 · 05/06/2022 12:01

Also in answer to your question about kissing and Sex etc. I imagine you'd take them out for that!! 😂
To be honest I probably have mine out for about 4 hours per day.
They are easier to put it and take out now. But at first it was so hard, I'd almost cry taking them out. But it's no problem at all now.
But yes I'd take them out for any sexual related activities! 😂

Dentist here. Be careful and choose wisely. A lot of (sometimes inexperienced)dentists are doing a two.four day course and offering these services.
My friend, an orthodontist is deeply concerned because a lot of her time is spent correcting Invisalign gone wrong at the hands of an inexperienced practitioner.

The computer generated after photos are amazing but this doesn't always reflect the reality.

An orthodontist, if Invisalign doesn't go to plan, can stick some brackets and wires on a tooth to correct the issue. A dentist can't.

An orthodontist has completed 4 years of postgraduate training to become a specialist.

In addition if not carefully managed, forced tooth movement can lead to bone loss and gingival recession.

Of course there are some smaller cases that Invisalign completed by a dentist will work really well, but I'd definitely do my research first.

holdingonforahero · 05/06/2022 12:33

She went direct to a dental technician which I think was cheaper

That's illegal

holdingonforahero · 05/06/2022 12:35

I used Smile Direct Club online

Not a single dentist in the entire country that values their professional registration would enforce this approach

holdingonforahero · 05/06/2022 12:35

*endorse sorry

My friend used smile direct. It was £1500 but 3 months in there was no difference and because it was all online she didn't get to go to a dentist for a proper assessment. You need a proper dentist overseeing it all in case it's not going right.
