Has anyone used the M&S period pants and are they any good please?
That's it really....
Thanks.

I hated mine, they were useless.

The pad at the front was too short so I would have leakage from the front of my vulva onto the pants.

I just looked on the M and S site and they don't have the style I bought so maybe just an issue with an individual design.

DaisyWaldron · 20/09/2022 18:07

I have some, but I only use them at the start and end of my period when my flow is light and use Modibodi the rest of the time.

I like them, but not the ones with the stripey waste bands as they dig in

Came to say I think the ones with the striped waistband come up small and are low rise; on me anyway!

I've never tried these.......might be a stupid question but when you've had them on, then go to the toilet and pull them back up, do they feel damp?

Sahara123 · 20/09/2022 19:05

Heavy periods here , I find there’s not enough “ pad “ area in the M & S ones to cope overnight for the first 2-3 days , I use Modibodi for those days . M & S fine after that . Absolutely brilliant invention

Sahara123 · 20/09/2022 19:11

I save up maybe 2 days worth soaking in cold water - 4 pairs - then chuck in the machine. They do take quite a while to dry so have around 8 pairs I think. To be honest I’d prefer all Modibodi but they are rather expensive, I do think they’re worth it but as the initial outlay was a lot I bought a set of M & S also . Be interesting to see how long they last . Give up on pads completely, so good !

Anononthistopic · 20/09/2022 19:29

This is an interesting thread. I don’t have periods any more, but do have occasional wee leaks, so I bought a mixture of Modibodi and M&S ones and started wearing them all the time during the day.

For years before wearing them I occasionally used to get symptoms which made me think I might be getting a UTI but they were always gone within 24 hours. After a few weeks of only using period pants the symptoms started but didn’t go away, so I stopped wearing them and the symptoms cleared up. Fortunately I hadn’t thrown all my old pants away.

Just to be clear, this is on the Modibodi site: ‘Our reusable leak-proof underwear, swimwear and activewear can be worn for incontinence as well as for periods.’
From what @Dhart2022 has written, perhaps I should try again with just the Modibodi ones.

@Needmorelego , I have many pretty colours from Modibodi, and nude and black ones from M&S, but they all have black pad areas/gussets so you don’t need to worry about only buying dark colours.

Dhart2022 · 20/09/2022 19:55

Descriptive language - warning.

I can only comment on modibodi ones ive not tried any other brands, yet.
When wearing they dont feel damp.
If they do begin to feel damp, thats the signal that you need to change to a new pair - the modibodi website advises this too.

As for after going to the loo, the only time ive noticed a feeling of something wet in a section of the pants, is;

-If there is a clot there. Usually i will clear the clot with toilet paper, instead of waiting for it to be absorbed - that would take longer as its a clot as oppose to clear flow.
It isnt really enough to create a feeling of dampness, its just being able to feel the area where the clot is, as a little bit wetter. (Naturally)
Trying to explain this in the nicest non-descript way possible!

If you have a sudden rush of flow in a large quantity, im seriously suprised that i actually cant feel the moisture from that. It must absorb quickly. If there is a little on the surface waiting to be absorbed, it isnt wet, its more a drying residue, sort of like clot material, and the actual liquid has been absorbed.

As i said before, if they feel damp, its time to swap to the next pair.

I dont soak them, the website says not to do that.
I rinse until clear water runs.
Then i hang them up until im ready to put a wash on.
Then into a delicates bag, and wash as normal in the machine.

My sister uses them, shes 14.
Shes a wheelchair user, so they are actually life changing.

I just dont dread periods anymore.

That screen shot from the man on the m&s website is clearly a wind up

PaperTyger · 20/09/2022 20:48

@Dhart2022

Thanks.
. have any of these chemicals been found in normal towels

Dhart2022 · 20/09/2022 21:04

I dont think so as its specific to the fact that period underwear is made of fabrics, and is reusable. So its enabling a material thats partially absorbant naturally, into a very absorbant material that performs better. They enhance its function and make them do a better job... increasing sales and enabling prices to be kept high.
Its also to do with the fact that it keeps them able to be thin, and not bulky, like disposable pads/towels.

Im currently researching so i will see what i can find.

www.mamavation.com/health/period-underwear-contaminated-pfas-chemicals.html

This article is thorough. ^

It even dives into the fact that Thinx have changed thier wording on the website since, without changing the product.
Thier are other more well known and health based websites reporting articles on it too.
Knix has also had a lawsuit filed against them.

PaperTyger · 20/09/2022 21:06

0h gosh!

Thank you so much, I was going to get dd some.

Dhart2022 · 20/09/2022 22:35

There are safe ones - many proven!

The ones i use have a layer of merino wool as part of the technology.
Wool is naturally moisture wicking, and naturally has anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties.

As far as im aware - The problem with some companies seems to be that they state that they are OEKO-TEX certified, which to the consumer eye immediately looks like, oh great SAFE.
But OEKO-TEX only tests for such a small number of PFAs.
There are thousands more that it doesnt even test for, at all.

So thats why the independent laboratories and investigations detect PFAs in some of these brands, despite the brand itself claiming to be 'safe' and OEKO-TEXA certified.
Youtube has a couple of videos about this too.

Theres some articles that are more mainstream in the public eye, but many smaller websites that are less swayed (and not paid) contain the information that people arent supposed to find out, that they dont want you to see.
Theres a couple of documents too though hard to find.

The lesser known Knix case;

news.bloomberglaw.com/litigation/knix-wear-sued-over-pfas-chemicals-in-menstrual-underwear

I dont know if the documents from the case can be opened. My phone wouldnt.

So basically, a brand saying something is OEKO-TEX certified, doesnt mean there are no PFAs. It doesnt mean its ok.

Im trying to find out if primark and M and S are okay, but no luck so far. They are too new to making them.
Its because they are cheaper than modibodi that I wanted to try them.
But if modibodi are safe and work then until i find out i dont want to try one that isnt tested independently.

@PaperTyger

Hope you get to try some for your DD.
Id never go back to pads now.

PaperTyger · 20/09/2022 22:36

What brand do you use?

Dhart2022 · 20/09/2022 22:51

@PaperTyger

It looks like disposable pads and tampons can contain thier own harmful substances, but different ones. Different chemicals.
Eg. Carcinogens, irritatants, pollutants, plastics, pesticides.

They are not the same type that we are talking about that period underwear can contain.
So far, ive not seen anything about PFAs in them.

@PaperTyger modibodi

But, they sell out fast, and are expensive.

They have a teen range.

The teen range, adults can fit into aswell because the measurements match up.
eg. im a 6/8, so is my sister, and we both use the youth 10-12.
The website has different body shapes and sizes and examples of what size they would wear in modibodi.

I feel safer in fitted.
If its hugging it feels secure for me.
i wouldnt want space in them!
I have the nighttime shorts in a youth 12-14 but for daytime i wouldnt want that little bit of space.

I find the shorts style, boyshorts, offer the best protection for me - and i also feel more confident in a short type. It feels protective.

I always scavange ebay and vinted for people selling the wrong sizes - a way to get them on the cheap!

Sorry about all the words!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 20/09/2022 23:03

I use the heavy ones in tandem with a cup as a bit like a swimsuit they tend to ‘gape’ a bit when they get damp. But they are much nicer than some other much more expensive ones I bought.

Particularly handy for overnight.

PaperTyger · 20/09/2022 23:09

Thank you 🙏

Dannifaye · 21/09/2022 00:32

Tried them but I have heavy flow and leaked all the time. Back to pads!

Dhart2022 · 21/09/2022 02:40

Oh no im sorry to hear that. :(

Im heavy too! Im on the POP so its all over the place and decides to sometimes flow out almost all in one go. 😫
Ill have nothing for most of the day, and then the whole days ml at once in the space of about five minutes. Ive leaked once or twice with the brand i use when its all of a sudden done what ive just explained, but i think its because i wanted to see how far i can go before i need to change. Just for peace of mind. It was when i was getting used to them and the absorbancies and which i need to use // how often ect.

Im too scared to even try another brand atm, ill only use one brand because i feel like even though they cost alot, that 'you get what you pay for' kind of thing. Im scared of another brand failing.

i couldnt ever find a way to feel safe and not anxious when i used pads.
I think i like the pants too because for me, sensory wise, pads really upset things for me. Thats why i hated periods.

Im so sorry they havent worked for you.
i hope you find something that does so much!
@Dannifaye

DaisyWaldron · 21/09/2022 12:34

It can vary even between designs from the same brand. My Modibodi sensual high waisted pants can cope with super-heavy perimenopausal flooding, but I tried a pair of their seam free boyleg ones and they gape and leak all over the place even with fairly light bleeding.

Rutland2022 · 21/09/2022 12:39

I like them. The Heavy ones aren’t truly heavy compared to my Wuka ones. I treat them as more moderate flow.
I have a mix of Wuka and M&S, use the Wuka for overnight and first day. Then the M&S heavy for a couple of days and then the M&S light.
I get 12 hours roughly. If I use the M&S on a very heavy day then roughly 8 hours. They are very good and don’t leak but just aren’t quite as absorbent as the Wuka. But for the price they are great.

MilkchopsMcgee · 21/09/2022 12:47

I have some M&S and some Modibody ones, I have to say the Modibody are far superior I can wear them all day without worrying but the M&S ones I will have to change when I get home from work, that said there's nothing wrong with them for the price, but if you have a heavy flow just bear in mind they won't last a full day

Madcats · 21/09/2022 18:42

It is worth slogging through the reviews on the M&S site. I remember some styles were better than others.

I seem to remember that I bought DD's to get us a beauty advent calendar (it must be close to that time of year again?).
