Help identify animal skull?

We found a skull on our walk in the woods.
Anyone any ideas what beastie it came from? Too large for rabbit /badger. Possibly too large for fox. Eyes seem to be facing front (predator).
Any ideas?

Ask a local vet?

TargusEasting · 03/06/2022 18:36

It is a juvenile Alien. The lower mandible has fallen off, but otherwise in good condition. Looks like it died at about 134 in Alien years which is about 12 in human years. Where did you find it? There are three known Alien crash sites in the UK and one wiped out colony. The colony numbered about 8,000 and certainly had juveniles. One of the crash sites was reported to be transporting 620 Alien pioneers when it was brought down just north of what is now Nottingham in 2439 BC.

This is so gross I can't believe you brought it home but I also really want to know the answer.

ponkydonkey · 03/06/2022 18:42

I'd say an old large badger?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/06/2022 18:48

No idea but I want to know the answer!!!

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/06/2022 18:48

Dog? Pig?

ItsDinah · 03/06/2022 18:50

Natural History museum has an online guide. It also has a Facebook group where they help you identify bones.

RogueRebel · 03/06/2022 19:02

Looks like the top of a doe deer, fallow or roe. A badger has a ridge on the top of their skulls so not that.

I think this one looks similar

😂😂😂

Pigmy Neanderthal?

Any rivers by you? As it could be an otter skull.

Badqueen · 03/06/2022 19:53

I think it's a deer.

Dominuse · 03/06/2022 19:55

It’s a deer - I’m an expert. (Don’t ask!!)

I agree

I have a PhD in juvenile aliens and this is spot on

DorritLittle · 03/06/2022 19:57

DD2 emerged from the woods by her primary school with her best mate, brandishing a Badger skull, when she was 8.

She insisted upon it being cleaned and kept it outside the front door of our flat. I rolled my eyes, as any other child I knew would have been shocked, not excited and could imagine the conversation at the next Parents' Evening if I let her take it into school, but she was happy enough for it to sit out there watching over the landing.

We never had visits from Jehovah's Witnesses again - I'd hear them knock on all the other doors in the block on Sunday mornings, then reach ours, stand silently and then walk away retreat down the stairs in silence.

Scrowy · 03/06/2022 20:24

It is probably a deer

If this is something you are in to (finding skulls etc) if you are on Facebook there is a group called 'Vulture Culture UK' where you will meet likeminded people.

This is a bit outing but I came home from my year 6 residential with a dead mole. I'd found it in the woods and carefully packed it in the front pocket of my rucksack 🤣 god knows what my poor mum thought! There's a photo of me cuddling it somewhere 🤢
