My leg is covered in them and they won't stop itching. Any suggestions please?

-Take some anti-histamine tablets.

-Chemists have bite-crème that soothes the skin

JaneJeffer · 03/06/2022 10:06

Got any calamine lotion?

TwinklingFairyLights · 03/06/2022 16:48

No pharmacists open round here to get anti itch cream.

I've had a piriteze and a clarityn. Different active ingredients. Hopefully one will work.

In terms of topical creams I've got TCP ointment and sudocream. Will either of those work?

Good idea 😂. I'm in the Lakes at the moment. I think a lot of Scottish midges must be on holiday here too.

Have you tried minty toothpaste? It works a treat on the gnat and mozzie bites we get in our neck of the woods... And it doesn't matter if the small people try to lick it off Grin

MadisonAvenue · 03/06/2022 17:12

I saw a tip last year to spray with antiperspirant so tried it when I had a very itchy bite two weeks ago and that helped a lot.

I've tried all kinds of lotions and creams, antihistamines, old wives tales in the past as I get bitten multiple times every Summer and itch for days and nothing has ever helped.

Izzibella84 · 03/06/2022 17:14

Ice. The itch sensation travels up the same nerve pathway as cold. So running them under cold water or putting an ice pack/ frozen peas on them gives some short term relief. Do everything you can not to scratch, scratching releases more histamine which then causes more itching and off you go again... it's brutal! My eczema was unbearable last night and the only relief was to freeze my hands until they were painfully numb, then I got a great night's sleep! Good luck 🤞

Won't help now you have been bitten but they love me but found avon dry spray stops them.

Bert2e · 03/06/2022 17:32

Heat a teaspoon up in hot water and touch them with it for as long as you can stand. Sounds weird but works a treat!

Piriton and eurax cream to rub all over them.

Stops the itching.

TwinklingFairyLights · 03/06/2022 17:45

NHS says not to use baking soda, lemon, toothpaste or vinegar on bites.

I just need to get through tonight - it looks like the pharmacist will be open again in the morning.

Tiger balm - stops the itch

HappyMaltesers · 03/06/2022 18:01

Tie your hands to something that means you can't reach the bites to scratch... its the only answer!

I use a hairdryer to do the same thing. Hold it near as long as you can stand it. You may need to repeat a couple of times. It works though

TwinklingFairyLights · 03/06/2022 22:15

God, the itching has really fired up tonight 🧯

I've had anti histamines and bite cream. They've turned into scabs now but a week later they are still itching. I'm scratching them in the night and they are bleeding.
