I'm having a brain blank. Is 500g of butter the average size tub or the extra large?

Large size

Prerapher · 02/06/2022 08:45

@Sux2buthen ...it's the large one 😁

Sux2buthen · 02/06/2022 08:47

Thank you Grin I just glanced at some lurpak and it was £5.20, I was shocked but if it's the large tub that makes more sense.
I am at an age where I am shocked by butter prices apparentlyConfused

Actual butter or butter substitute? A normal size tub of clover is 500gm but the big on is 1kg, but actual butter comes in a 250gm packet so 2 of those, I think?

stairgates · 02/06/2022 08:51

Lurpaks are pricey 😁A 1kg tub is around £10 and the 500gm around £4.50 from a quick google

dementedpixie · 02/06/2022 09:12

I buy blocks of butter and the normal size is 250g. Pay maybe about £1.50-£1.70

Sux2buthen · 02/06/2022 09:12

I'm a butter person and I did have lurpak recently and thought it was horrible lol.
At least I can calm down about the price now Grin
I must get a life

500g is a normal size tub. The large ones are 1kg.

GiltEdges · 02/06/2022 09:14

Where are you shopping OP? A 500g tub of Lurpak in my last Tesco shop on Monday was £3.59.

Roystonv · 02/06/2022 09:16

In the pursuit of cheaper groceries I stopped buying butter and naice bread. It was a step too far for me. I love my sit at the table with the newspaper and toast and thank goodness we can afford to.

Giveitall · 02/06/2022 09:19

I only eat pure butter in 250g blocks. That’s the standard measure.
Im appalled at the price now, £1.75 or £1.80 per block. This was own brand at Aldi this week.
On TV “they” said the price of cheese has gone down! Really? How can that, as a comparable dairy product, be the case? I don’t believe it.
Anyway, Lurpac & other easily spread butter products are mixed with vegetable oil. It’s a rip off. Always has been, but given that Ukraine are big suppliers of cooking oils/veg oils, I can see why that would be. (Supply issues)
Give me butter, every time but I’ll try to use less.

dementedpixie · 02/06/2022 09:20

Lurpak also comes in a 750g tub
Block butter tends to be cheaper than tubs

LakeTiticaca · 02/06/2022 09:53

If it's the spreadable stuff your being ripped off. Price range £2.75-£3.75 depending what's on offer . That's for Anchor 500g.
Sainsburys or Tesco's buttersoft cheaper and no difference in taste IMO

Sux2buthen · 02/06/2022 15:36

It was the co-op. I use block butter but sometimes they're stock of things is going haywire and I saw the expensive lurpak and was shocked

If its a small local coop then they're often more expensive than other larger stores
