Whole body vibrating when waking up

Very strange experience this morning where it felt as though my body was vibrating for a few minutes after waking up. I lay still, wondering if DH had got up in the night and put the washing machine on but he hadn't. It wasn't like a tremor, definitely more vibration than shaking.

It faded after a few minutes. Anyone else had this? What is it?!

i have this also. I have no idea why or what it is. It happens more when I wake up from a daytime nap (so sleeping at irregular times) or sometimes if I have had a very bad nights sleep.

ive googled it loads of times and never really got an answer. I’ve had it on and off for years and it’s never been any other time except for on waking and it’s never got worse so I don’t think it’s anything too horrid.

would love to hear other peoples experience

notyourmam · 01/06/2022 17:49

I have this as a component of the dysautonomia I've had since getting Long Covid a couple of years ago. Quite a common symptom, though I think it's a bit of a mystery what's actually causing it.

Porcupineintherough · 01/06/2022 17:54

Same as @notyourmam , this started as a long covid symptom for me and I've had it on and off since then (2 years). It's called "internal tremors" and they Cs ve a precursor of some quite nasty conditions but can also be just "one of those things".

Porcupineintherough · 01/06/2022 17:54

Can be a precursor..

Maybepossibly22 · 01/06/2022 18:14

This is interesting! I’ve suffered the same for a number of years and haven’t met anyone that has the same. Very very bizarre sensation, and quite unsettling. Hopefully we all get a conclusion!

IdiotCreatures · 01/06/2022 19:06

I get this occasionally, no idea why or what it is caused by, but I have all sorts of weird and wonderful things going wrong with me that leave drs baffled. 🙄

CherryRipe1 · 01/06/2022 19:09

We all have mild internal vibrations but various illnesses/disorders, neuropathies, traumas, stress, viruses etc can cause them to become apparent. If they get worse, ask for a referral to neurology.

ForestFae · 01/06/2022 19:10

I get this if I’m woken suddenly or with a loud noise. Never known why.

PragmaticWench · 01/06/2022 21:10

It's fascinating in a way, you never know when something unusual may throw itself into your life. Or why. Hopefully it's nothing bad, as a pp said, Googling can come up with some nasty causes.

I'm taking gabapentin for a herniated disc so maybe it's hours overnight without that?

Is it anxiety

MyBottomDecides · 01/06/2022 21:21

Isn't it adrenaline? If you have low cortisol, your body kicks out adrenaline as a compensation to get/keep you going.

Interesting this was first thing in the morning. Yoyr body normally produces the day's highest cortisol from the small hours till dawn, to wake you up and get you going. If it didn't, maybe your adenine levels rose instead. Are you run down OP? Might want to Google adrenal fatigue

TheCanyon · 01/06/2022 21:24

I have this near enough all 24/7 but I do have essential tremor so mine's is at least explained. It's VERY fecking annoying.

vibrating phone syndrome is worth a google, so many folks suffer this without knowing why, or purely for no reason at all.

inininsomnia · 01/06/2022 21:26

This has appeared for me, just as you describe, along with a whole host of other symptoms of perimenopause. Bloody horrible but (I sincerely hope) seems harmless so far

Porcupineintherough · 01/06/2022 21:27

@MyBottomDecides that's really interesting . I do actually have chronically low cortisol and adrenal fatigue exactly matches lots of my long covid symptoms. Unfortunately it's been declared a non diagnosis by endocrinologist.

Mushroomlady · 01/06/2022 21:28

It's the first stage in astral projection. Google it! It's a sign that you can leave your body. It's only happened a handful of times to me though. I haven't listened to this (sorry, on the train) but looks like it might explain it amp.listennotes.com/podcasts/spirituality/the-vibrational-stage-Aj1NO-Z3GWD/amp/

MyBottomDecides · 01/06/2022 21:36

@Porcupineintherough I've had pretty much that conversation! Interesting experiment is to get adrenal cortex supplements - can get them from Amazon - and see if they relieve your symptoms. The difference was pronounced for me!

Alwayshoovering · 01/06/2022 21:42

I have this maybe once every couple of weeks. I have no idea what it is or what causes it. I find it quite disconcerting but pointless seeking GP advise as one can never get an appointment. I often get tingling extremities too, unsure if it is related

imnottoofussed · 01/06/2022 21:46

I have this and it seemed to be linked to taking sleeping tablets as I only get it after I've taken them for a couple of nights.

Gerano · 01/06/2022 21:48

This has happened to me twice too! Once when I woke up in the middle of the night and once when I woke up in the morning. I was completely freaked out, especially the first time. It also happened to my friend/colleague a couple of times. We both googled and scared ourselves but it hasn’t happened again (was several months ago)

PragmaticWench · 01/06/2022 21:58

bellalou1234 · 01/06/2022 21:14

Is it anxiety

No, I'm not anxious at all. Frustrated with my herniated disc but no anxiety or depression.

BarbarasStripedHands · 01/06/2022 22:04

I get this but mine is just before I go to sleep. Not every night, maybe a couple of times a week but it's just like the bed is shaking. It's really odd. I had it long before I had Covid so can't put it down to that.

RoyKentsChestHair · 01/06/2022 22:15

I’ve had this for the past few weeks - I described it as sounding helicopters over my house. Honestly thought it was the police helicopter that sometimes hovers overhead for a while when looking for people up to no good! Then thought maybe it was the washing machine on spin, but didn’t understand why it was so loud! Then realised it was in my head.

I had covid in January and also have massively high cortisol in the mornings, so could be one of those. I often wake up with palpitations or just in a shock/panic but the helicopter thing is new.
