Moving to the North East

Hi all, I hope you are well and looking forward to the long bank holiday weekend. Let’s hope the weather improves as it’s so up and down at the moment. I wanted to get some advice and guidance from you all, if possible as I know this is the place to come when I’m stuck on things like this 😁.

So we are planning on moving to either Newcastle or Northumberland due to work. It’s me, husband and our three year old.

I am from a city but would like a more quieter life and being close to the coast would be great for the little one. Hubby would like to be near to Newcastle city for work and due to needing to use the train.

Wenare hoping to buy a house £250 thousand is the max.

I have been looking for weeks and have heard places like Morpeth are nice and Gosforth for Newcastle. We would like a town or even a larger village but firstly I am not sure what places are best and secondly as a mixed cultural family we need to ensure that we have some diversity (hoping there wouldn’t be any racism but you never no).

Ideally we would like a more “middle class” area as we live in one now and it’s lovely and pleasant, with families and that isn’t far from Newcastle. An area that is green as we love to outdoors and would like to also go to the coast often. We want to be a part of the community but not like a small village where everyone knows everything about you.

Can you recommend any towns or large villages please. Morpeth would be ideal but there doesn’t seem to be a train station there.

Thank you in advance

Hexham is very nice. It has a railway station and isn't too far from Newcastle. Corbridge is next door and very nice too, but is pretty expensive.

There is a train station at Morpeth. Trains go direct to Newcastle.

Morpeth does have a train station and also a frequent express bus service to Newcastle. The coast - Tynemouth and Whitley Bay are on the metro and there are also buses. Yes, Hexham is lovely, and there's a train service. Public transport as a whole is pretty good.
Nicest areas in Newcastle would be Jesmond and Gosforth, excellent buses and metros, excellent schools, close to city centre, but housing is expensive.

Have you looked at Whitley Bay? It's lovely, good schools, right on the coast and you can get the metro into Newcastle. It's not very ethnically diverse but the areas you're looking at aren't, in general. Can be expensive too.

Another vote for Whitley Bay, Gosforth and Morpeth. All lovely areas - depends what kind of property you want for your £250k - they're all quite expensive.

Whitley Bay, Tynemouth or certain areas of Cullercoats is where would head if you want good transport links to Newcastle.

Morpeth has a train station and Cramlington more Gosforth though for more multicultural and closer to town we see less multicultural outside of Newcastle also the likes of whitley Bay South shields they are coastal and just a metro to Newcastle

Bumping for further suggestions as we have a similar budget and area requirements, though ideally large villages rather than town.

OP@DocFree have you decided on a location?
