Anyone know how to block individual kids’ programmes on Prime Video?

Hi everyone - I’m desperate to block a particular children’s programme that my DD(8) keeps watching on Amazon Prime Video.
I’ve managed to block it on her Fire tablet but it still appears on the Prime app on our smart TV.
i thought I’d killed it but the next day it was back! Surely there has to be a way of blocking a title from all devices using the same account? Heeelp!

What's the show? Is there an age rating you could block under if its too old her her?

Also at 8 she's old enough to understand no and the consequences of not doing as she's told

axolotlfloof · 01/06/2022 08:54

I would just tell an 8 year old they are not allowed to watch it and why.
No screens if you find they have watched it.
You don't need a technological solution for this.

LOOOL, @axolotlfloof . If only. I should probably have mentioned that DD has a learning disability is autistic and has ADHD, with very challenging behaviour. The reason I want to block this show is that it’s actually too young for her and encouraging her to behave like a particularly bratty toddler and making her very hyperactive.

Yes that's a different kettle of fish OP.
I don't know how to block individual shows on prime, sorry.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 01/06/2022 11:49

Thanks, @axolotlfloof. I’m hoping someone will come along who’s managed it.

I think it’s dangerous to depend too much on the app to do parenting. I also have an 8 year old, he’s autistic. I supervise him when he’s using the iPad. He isn’t allowed to use it independently. I ask supervise dd6. My older two are allowed to choose programmes etc alone because I trust them to listen to what they’re allowed to watch/use and will check. I also really limit time on iPads/computers. Basically it sounds like rather than blocking a programme maybe you need to be supervising more closely.

LifeInsideMyhead · 01/06/2022 11:54

Are you sure its the programme that's making her hyperactive??

(my child self-regulates with a programme that's too young for her. The familiarity is calming for her..)

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 01/06/2022 12:16

@Kanaloa We’re definitely not letting the app do the parenting. DD can’t be left on her own for more than a couple of minutes, so we’re very conscious of what she’s watching. She doesn’t watch anything inappropriate, and her tablet is heavily locked down. The problem comes when the programme she loves appears in the menu on our smart TV and then she’s desperate to watch it.

@LifeInsideMyhead Yes, it’s definitely this programme. I get what you’re saying about self-regulating with predictable shows aimed at younger children, but DD identifies strongly with one of the characters and basically turns into him, wreaking destruction just like him!

Maybe restrict TV for a bit in that case. Or make it a set aside time. As in 5pm is TV Time. What shall we watch? So it’s decided beforehand with less chance of scrolling the TV and seeing it.

Bakedpotatoesfortea · 01/06/2022 12:20

I have all my tv switched so that any show is password protected. I can't remember how I did it now! It means I have to approve everything, and they can't watch tv unless I want them to. Also got ASC & ADHD

LittleBearPad · 01/06/2022 12:21

Log out of the app on the TV?

SaskiaRembrandt · 01/06/2022 12:25

On mine, if you hover over the title block image thingy, one of the options is a little circle with a line through it. If you click that you can hide the programme. Have a look and see if you have a similar option.

sleepyhoglet · 01/06/2022 12:32

Yes you can do it. Think you need to log in to her/his tablet and do it there rather than on amazaon parent dashboard online remotely though

Intrigueddotcom · 01/06/2022 12:34

Only let her have the fire tablet?!

PeekAtYou · 01/06/2022 12:48

I'm assuming that she doesn't know your passwords and how to reverse any locks.

It will probably be easiest if she watches on her tablet or you log out of the app on the tv so shr can't watch Amazon prime

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 01/06/2022 13:06

I fear logging out of the app on the TV may be the only solution.

@SaskiaRembrandt That’s exactly what I did - thought, phew! I’ve cracked it! And the next morning they were all back again. 🙁
