Anyone here on noritryptiline?

Finally started on it last night after putting it off for months (It's for facial pain and anxiety)

Took it at 9pm, couldn't sleep until 2 which is peculiar as its a sedative, then I was up and down with the baby from 5-9 so no real quality of sleep unfortunately. I'm a zombie today and totally shattered.

How long can I expect the drowsiness / side effects to last? I'm only on 10mg so not a huge dose

To add - I'm used to being tired and managing on little sleep so this degree of exhaustion is definitely the noritryptiline 😄

I used to take 25mg for ADHD. I'm afraid I found the sleepiness, nausea and brain fog lasted about 6 weeks, I was about to give up on it but then it went away and I felt totally normal.

The exhaustion was terrible, I kept wondering if I was pregnant.

Oh that's really interesting, I didn't realise it was something used to treat ADHD! I actually suspect I have that myself, have for years. It'll be interesting to see if I feel any benefit in that regard.

The exhaustion feels EXACTLY like early pregnancy you hit the nail on the head there.

6 weeks sounds grim. Eeek.

I take it for nerve pain and its a life saver.
You should take it no later than 8 in the evening otherwise you won't feel great the next day.
Realistically you won't feel the full effects for at least 2 weeks.
For me the best side effect is if I wake-up I know I will go back asleep.

Innocenta · 31/05/2022 18:11

I take it for nerve pain, and still find it sedating but only overnight x

Booyakaintheplace · 31/05/2022 18:18

Thanks all, I'm going to take it at 8pm tonight and see how I get on. I wonder if my anxiety about the fact I'd taken it kept me up into the small hours, rather than the noritryptiline itself?

I was bordering on being medication phobic so taking it was a big deal for me, as silly as that sounds.

I pledged to take the kids to the farm tomorrow so that should be interesting 😄

Did anybody not put on weight with it?

OP posts:
Innocenta · 31/05/2022 18:27

I didn't gain any weight.

I took it once for migraine. Never again! I ended up with quite bad depression. Had to ask very quickly to come off it.

Oh dear I'm sorry that's terrible, how long did it take you to feel back to normal after you stopped the med?

I took it for nerve pain but it never worked as a sedative for me to get to sleep.. to my knowledge this one less sedatary than the amptripiline hence why I swapped to it. But suppose they work different on different people.

Yes it certainly didn't have a sedative effect on me last night. Quite the opposite.

I just felt absolutely zonked all day today.

Hopefully I can get some better quality of sleep tonight as I can't afford to be awake until 2-3 in the morning as I'm up with baby.

I don't think it is used to treat ADHD it's just my doctor has this pet theory about it Grin it's totally off label. I am trying to get onto something else but there just aren't many doctors where I am. It did help me a bit, I found it seemed to make me more aware of time.

I didn't gain any weight. Nobody told me to take it in the evening so I was taking it in the morning which might have caused the tiredness. To be honest I don't want to be on any sedative medication as I'm cosleeping with my youngest at the moment.

If you do have ADHD it's worth knowing that in ADHD brain chemistry the effects of stimulants and depressants are sometimes noticed to be swapped around so caffeine will make you tired and so on.

Oh wow, so that could be why it kept me awake as opposed to putting me to sleep?

I did a fair bit of reading about Noritryptiline before starting it and saw it is often prescribed for its sleep benefits (Well amitriptyline usually, but it's more or less the same)

Very interesting.

I'm actually planning on pursuing an ADHD diagnosis through psychologyUK. I wonder if having that on my record will make any difference to what meds I'm prescribed for other stuff.

Two and a half hours sleep and I'm wired. I'm not taking this again. Just awful.

a few days. As mentioned, I'd only taken it once so it would have gone out of my system pretty quickly.
