Neighbours left

So new neighbours moved in a few years ago. Very quiet and don't see or speak to them much.
Today there are removal vans parked in their drive and I've been out a few hours, when I came home it's obvious the house is now empty. Can see through the front windows and
Nothing there.

This is a house they have bought.

But there's no for sale or to let sign outside the house. Is this normal?

They've moved somewhere but not sure what they are doing with the house. I always thought people still lived in their house until it was sold but no indication what they are doing with it at this point.

I am a nosy neighbour if you hadn't noticed lol.

So is this normal?

Is it normal for people to move? Yes.

purplesequins · 31/05/2022 16:29

full renovation due to start?

42isthemeaning · 31/05/2022 16:30

They may have sold it privately to someone they know.

toastedbagiel · 31/05/2022 16:30

Well as you don't know what is going on you can't really ask if it is normal. They have moved out. They may be renting the place and living elsewhere. The house may be under repossession. Aliens may have claimed it as their own and boiled your neighbours.

AllFreeOwls · 31/05/2022 16:31

We didn't tell our neighbours we were moving and didn't have a sale board up either, so this all sounds fairly normal.

ExitpursuedbyaBore · 31/05/2022 16:32

Probably sold it privately

BlueisthenewGrey · 31/05/2022 16:34

This happened to us. We put the house on the market, our estate agents were useless and as it sold immediately they never bothered to put up a sign (out of the way cul de sac so no benefit to them).

I did wonder after we moved if the neighbours thought we did a moonlight flit as we were only there 2 years. I did say goodbye to our immediate neighbours though.

MarmiteOnToast · 31/05/2022 16:39

Private sell

Let it out

Or someone i knew inherited a house then moved in way before he even put his on the market

LIZS · 31/05/2022 16:43

They might bit have had a board up. Or be relocated by an employer.

LIZS · 31/05/2022 16:43

*not

Ilikewinter · 31/05/2022 16:47

We sold with no for sale board up, neighbours were at work the day we moved ..... not that we spoke to them anyway!
Maybe they've sold but the person moving in will come over the weekend

lobsterkiller · 31/05/2022 16:51

I sold with no board up. If people wanted to look on RM they would see it, not much footfall down my old road, so no need for a board. I only said goodbye to who I was attached to. I was there over 8 years. I'm very private, so didn't want to advertise my personal business to anyone.

CamoTeaLaLa · 31/05/2022 16:51

We are not moving in the house we have bought for a few days after the vendors move out.

Soon enough next door will be flurry of activity and you’ll have plenty to peek at through your nets 😋

TeeBee · 31/05/2022 16:52

I never put For Sales signs up as I live in a village with very nosy/gossipy neighbours.

AJ2009 · 31/05/2022 16:57

Thanks for the helpful comments...

Always gonna be sarcy one's on any thread though I've noticed. 🙄

I'm sorry about my comment if it came across as sarcasm, it wasn't intended. Just a bad attempt at making a joke.

Lots of empty houses on Rightmove for sale, military moves, overseas moves, move to for chain reasons.

caoraich · 31/05/2022 17:13

They might have done part exchange with a developer for a new build. We did this, no board outside the old place and it was empty until the developer sold it on. Was handy as I could pop back for post before the redirection kicked in!

Alwayshoovering · 31/05/2022 17:31

Yes quite normal, not everyone has a for sale sign. I never have done

They could have bought another and decided to rent that one out.

They could have relocated for work and have moved to rented and are renting that out until they come back or will put on market as is.

They could have inherited a property and moving to that and either renting out or selling at a later date.

They could have sold without a for sale sign and exchanged already and completion due to take place but their new house may need renovating so could have put stuff in storage and gone to an air bnb.

They could have sold but not found anywhere to go to so have continued with sale anyway and put stuff in storage and gone to rented, air bnb, family etc.

I think I've given this more thought than you OP 🤣🤣 and now I want to know the real reason if you find out.

AJ2009 · 31/05/2022 21:29

Actually found out why as my partner spoke with a neighbour who had spoken to neighbour before they left.
Bought at a private auction.

Blaze1886 · 31/05/2022 21:34

Not all sellers choose to display a for sale sign when they are on the market

OldTinHat · 31/05/2022 21:40

A neighbour has sold with no sign up. She's gradually been moving her stuff out to her new place and her house is almost empty now. She says she has one more trip - I'll miss her!

So, quite normal!

Mirrorball2022 · 31/05/2022 21:44

Plenty round here sell on right move but don’t seem to ever have a board up.

fossilsmorefossils · 31/05/2022 21:49

I left without telling my neighbours. They were perfectly nice to me but I could hear their arguments word for word and didn't want to speak to them ever again. Not because of the noise, (it was never late at night so no big bother) but more all the accusations that I heard gave me a very different view of them and I didn't want to know them anymore.
