They're never going to be popular here OP as you well know.

Fedupsotired · 30/05/2022 20:54

Do you who think it's gross not like cheese boards?

I've had
2 for small family parties by outside caterers.
All very clean with a grease proof paper layer on the table. Majority of items in plates or in baskets and looked so pretty. I like them.

Doesn't sound like a grazing platter though?

I even find buffets gross.

saraclara · 30/05/2022 20:57

It's the quantity in numbers that's off putting. The actual food is absolutely to my taste, and I've been given an individual grazing box at a conference, that was absolutely amazing. But in quantities for a buffet table, it just looks grim after a while. And because everything looks mixed up once penne have helped themselves, the leftovers really aren't saveable and just get thrown away. So waste is an issue.

saraclara · 30/05/2022 20:57

Penne=people

Oblomov22 · 30/05/2022 21:07

What sort of grazing platter are you referring to? Because some are just a posh cheeseboard.

It's not an unpopular opinion. I've see this exact same thread posted here before and the general consensus was that yes, grazing platters are gross.

cakewitch · 30/05/2022 21:24

Grazing??? Isn't that what cattle do?? I can't bear these new words for stuff. Do we not simply 'eat' anymore??. And dont get me started on 'munchy boxes'.. vile pizza boxes of fried shite. And yes.. those tables are odd and although very photogenic, would look horrible and unappetising after 5 people have had their mitts in them, mixing them around.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 30/05/2022 21:35

cakewitch oh I agree, munching, slurping, nibbling ugh. I blame the education system, these words are now seen as excellent contributions in creative writing. In reality they were only used to show disgust.

DonnaRhea · 30/05/2022 22:33

It depends who I'm sharing it with
Strangers not a chance unless I got in there first

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 31/05/2022 01:55

Munchy boxes have been a Glasgow thing forever and I love them!

internetpersonme · 31/05/2022 03:51

They're hideous. After people have bee let loose on them in a few mins don't they just look like the contents of the bin at school dinners where everyone has scraped their plates into?

RenegadeMatron · 31/05/2022 04:15

How is the principle - helping yourself by hand to items on a vessel in the middle of a table - any different from a cheeseboard?

Quite. I know it's not allowed but I'm going to say this op reads like someone gathering material for an article.

I think it's because there's lots of different food crammed together and people will pick through it to find the bits they want so it just gets into a mess very quickly.

Obviously makes the whole thing unsuitable for people with allergies or anyone who's vegetarian or doesn't eat pork for religious reasons as there's always a lot of charcuterie.

With a cheeseboard you just slice off the cheese you want and take crackers and grapes to go with it.

Fjea · 31/05/2022 06:04

I have googled. I don’t understand why you’d do that to food.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 31/05/2022 07:04

Tbh, I wouldn't put a good cheeseboard out with loads of people either.

Thebeastofsleep · 31/05/2022 07:50

Depends on why you think they are gross.

Don't like food touching, then whilst I think you are weird, that's fair enough. Think people's fingers are all over everything? Well, I've only seen people pick stuff up with cutlery.

vjg13 · 31/05/2022 09:01

Don't like the food touching, savoury touching sweet etc. I think the crackers would be soggy. It all looks contaminated for vegetarians. I don't mind a "normal" buffet or cheese plate.
