IKEA poang chair

I'm doing work on a spare room. Currently plans are up in the air right now and the visitors who were due to come probably won't be coming now but plans have changed so many times.

I will be painting. I would like to buy a chair for the room and I am looking at the IKEA poang chair.

I am undecided about the original chair or the rocking chair?

What would people here recommend?
It's not for nursing. More of a corner chair I suppose for reading and relaxing and putting clothes on it.

I have the regular one and do sometimes think the rocking one would be nicer for relaxing!

BonnesVacances · 30/05/2022 17:24

We have a Poang chair in 3 rooms. Look for one on Marketplace as there are always loads on there so there's no need to buy a new one and build it. It's easy to replace the cover too if you don't like the colour.

We have the original and love it and recently wanted another so went for the rocking one, I was SO excited (sent DP to buy it so I didn't try it before hand) but I actually prefer the original one.

Yes they are quite nice, I have one as it was here when I moved in, had the cover dry cleaned but it's black anyway so better where stains are concerned and I put a throw over it.

I love the original. It bounces a bit so it gives the feel of a rocking chair. We have one in the DCs room for sitting on to read them bedtime stories and I always get so comfy I don't want to get up!

I Love the poang rocking chair, exceptionally relaxing!! And so easy to move room to room if needed

Phyllis321 · 30/05/2022 17:52

We had one for years, it was OK but I felt like my head was pushed too far forward by the cushion. I'm fairly tall which may have been a factor.

Quirkycarrot · 30/05/2022 17:56

@Phyllis321 was just about to ask if anyone found the headrest awkward sometimes, thought it was just me! I'm only 5'3 but still feel like it isn't quite where I want it

Oystercatchers · 30/05/2022 19:01

I'd have the original. I like the amount of give it has and it's a really comfy chair. Also, DP bought ours years before we met and it's still going strong, despite having been jumped on by many children, so I'd say they are good value!

Thank you for the replies. The the visitors continue to come, I will buy the original and footstool

We have both - one thing to be aware of with the rocking chair is that it's all too easy to get something (e.g. a foot) under the rockers, and the rocking chair needs more space. Neither are deal breakers for us, but might be for others.

Hathertonhariden · 30/05/2022 19:08

I've had mine for over 30 years, still in great condition. It is quite big so I'd check the size of the space you're planning to put it in if you live in a new build.

mathanxiety · 30/05/2022 19:26

The original bouncy one takes up less space than the rocking one ime. You need more clearance for the rocker.
