Any tips for getting rid of toddler cough?

We are being hit by the endless onslaught of bugs and viruses since he started nursery.
Recently we’ve weathered a virus that came with a cough, had a week off without a cough then it came back when he got a bacterial throat infection mid May and hasn’t gone away. He’s now got a UTI poor thing, his eczema has flared up and the cough doesn’t seem to be getting any better so none of us are getting any sleep!

its not constant but regular enough and sounds quite mucousy - sometimes he’s nearly sick with it as he coughs so much.

have tried cool mist humidifier, just made the room damp and didn’t necessarily seem to help.
piriton incase it was hayfever related - might have helped a tiny bit but still coughing overnight.
propped up mattress with pillows but he doesn’t always stay at the propped up end
calpol plug in incase caused by congestion

hes teething on and off and didn’t know if that could affect it as he’s very dribbly but wasn’t sure what I could do about that.

I’m shattered and at my wits end! Friends have said coughs can last ages in toddlers so I’m really hoping I can find something to help him.

When their noses get runny before the cough a pharmacist told me that the piriton liquid for 1 year olds will dry the flem.
Hot baths - or sit and breathe steam from a container.
Vicks on soles of feet, chest and back.
The noise squirter device (the one from sea salt) do lots of squirts.
Disclaimer I am not a doctor do please speak to your medical professionals first.
I hope the toddler feels better, these things are relentless and impact is felt by whole family too

Is there a family history of asthma? Sounds like he may have it, with the eczema & coughing til nearly sick. Perhaps he'd benefit from an inhaler.

Calpol plug ins are very good & I find Calpol before bed helps to dry snot. There are Vicks room humidifier with the menthol bit too.

Dual defence nasal spray & perhaps one of those snot suckers. We had a really fancy one for about £100 when dc were tiny & it was ace.

Thanks for all this. The calpol plug in and piriton combined did seem to make a bit of difference last night, I'll try again and hope it's not just a fluke. Interestingly, when he did start coughing in the early morning, he said his gums were hurting (back molars are coming in). I just feel like I'm constantly giving him piriton or antibiotics or calpol at the moment as he's had such a run of being poorly but needs must! I took him to the doctor when it first started and again for a check and his chest is clear but if it persists for another few weeks I'll take him back.
