Covid Vaccine Paper Pass?

MermaidEyes · 28/05/2022 13:10

Due to fly abroad in a couple of months so having to figure out the covid vaccine passes for me, dh and 2 teens. Have looked up the instructions for getting it online and it seems you have to create an NHS log in with some kind of photo ID. Ended up reading a couple of forums where so many people said it proved to be a bit of a nightmare, so I'm wondering if it's just better to order the paper copies for us all, and then it's done and printed anyway? Anyone else done this, and roughly how long has it taken to arrive? I know you can't have it more than a month before you travel.

I had to phone to get one for dd the other day. Its not with us yet, but it says it takes 5 working days to arrive. We fly on Tuesday 7th June. So fingers crossed it gets to us.

It was really easy to do. I phoned 119 All I needed was dd NHS number, address and DOB.

We found it very straightforward online. You register for an NHS account, and then need to submit a photo of your passport photo page as ID. It then need to be verified- can’t remember if that took hours or days. We did it for our 12 year old too (to get a recovery certificate having had covid in March)

The NHS app is really easy and once it's up and running you can print off a copy if you wish.

Ah thanks. Was originally just going to do it online then made the mistake of reading people's horror stories about using their passports for ID and it not recognising them. My kids don't look anything like their passport photos now 😆 That's why I thought a paper copy might be easiest all round.

I've heard this morning about paper copies being rejected at the airport and only online versions being accepted. A friend's parents missed their flight due to only having paper copies.

motogirl · 28/05/2022 13:33

Just set up the up for the adults, took about 10 mins then the drs took 48 hours to do what they needed to do, I can now not only get covid passes easily but also see my medical records for the last 15 years and book appointments.

The teens I'm not sure, an online account is better if possible because the certificates only last a month

lljkk · 28/05/2022 13:40

Spanish requirement seems to be for QR code not photo required on the digital certificate. I sure hope I have that right.

That's not good for those who don't have smartphones, or what about if your phone dies the minute you step foot off the plane?!

I thought someone checked pass before you get thru security to gate to get on plane to an EU country, not after you land. That's easiest thing for airlines & what happened when we flew UK <-> USA. Do you know different?

i read here about ppl not being checked at all anywhere, recently, trips to Europe.
We'll need masks for flight, tomorrow. I nearly didn't bring any.

MermaidEyes · 28/05/2022 13:57

I know some are being checked at their destination airport and some not. Its like a lottery.

The only time I've heard that happen is when they are 'out of date'. People forget they are only valid for so long.

whereamu · 28/05/2022 15:32

I didn't realise the paper copies were only valid for a month.
My DS has the nhs app and applied for the recovery pass.
I printed a pdf copy off incase phone runs out of battery.
Is this the same thing that only lasts a month?
Will I have to get another certificate printed off? It says valid until august!
This is all so confusing!

I'm just hoping the whole thing gets scrapped soon!

what about if your phone dies the minute you step foot off the plane?!

I have got a screenshot of our QR codes, might help, anyway.

whereamu · 28/05/2022 20:40

@lljkk excellent idea and put the pics on a family WhatsApp so anyone with you can access the pictures Smile

FFS, I forgot to screen shot. Anyway, Spanish did check, after we got thru immigration control & before luggage. Being in Spain is weird, masks required on public transport but not in airport itself or shops, etc.
