Does a toddler need to sleep in another room while painting?

Hello,

I would like to decorate my DDs bedroom but does she need to sleep somewhere else while I do it? It would be dry before she goes to bed but not sure if it needs air out.

I haven't got anywhere else she can go so will have to put it off if not.

I'd air it out first personally. Just have her in with you for a night or two? Floor bed?

We've always left a room to air after painting and slept elsewhere. The time you need to leave it, depends on the paint you use. Why can't she sleep in your room or in the living room?

I wouldn't bother: I'm pretty sure normal household emulsion isn't toxic... how would anyone be able to decorate if not? How would professional painters and decorators survive?

Oh I don't think it would do any real harm but I wouldn't want to sleep all night in a room smelling of paint personally 🤷‍♀️

My top tip is to cut an onion in half and then cut it through. The onion absorbs any fumes and goes a milky colour. The room will smell of onion.

Hopefully that and an open window might make the room ok?

I wouldn't risk it. Why can't she come in with you for a couple of nights?

We’ve just done DS’s room. The emulsion was fine but the gloss paint (not my choice I hasten to add!) was stinky for a couple of days and so we moved him out.
